Amano Cafe: Near the Tate
Cafe's around Tate Modern at weekends have up until now been few and far between, but it seems the area is truly regenerating and this rather smart cafe/bar has appeared in the great blue glass building behind the museum.
I get the feeling that this place will become popular with the after office crowd, but at weekends this is a useful place to grab some decent brunch or lunch or just a coffee. Prices in the Tate are rather on the expensive side, so it's about time that an alternative appeared close by.
Staff were friendly enough, food was served fast. You order the food and drinks from the counter. Tip not necessary.
Favorite Dish: Inside the decor is nice enough, it's trying hard to be a little arty but ends up looking a little to chain-cafe. Pizzas looked good and cost around the 7 pounds mark. With it being a Sunday afternoon, we went for the brunch menu that is served until 15.00.
Eggs Benedict, poached eggs on bagels with maple cured bacon cost just £4.75 and was really nice. A bacon or sausage sandwich cost about £3.00.
On top of it all, the coffee is really rather nice. So a small brunch including coffee came to under a tenner. Not bad for a visit to the Tate. Accepts credit cards over £6.00.
