Rock and Sole Plaice by londonlover Traveling with my seafood-loving parents, I did some thorough research on the best fish 'n chips in London on my 2004 trip, and this was one of two I had chosen from various recommendations. Wow, we weren't disappointed! The decor is very casual inside, but the place is cute as a button. Hanging plants cover the outdoor sidewalk seating, and indoor you'll find plenty of locals who don't mind mixing with tourists to enjoy the fabulous fish and chips! The name of the place is very clever--Rock, Sole, and Plaice being three types of fish they serve here. :)

A lovely piece of haddock at Golden Hind by Dabs I love eating fish and chips when I go to London and Golden Hind was recommended by several guide books, including Time Out's Cheap Eats, and written up in Gourmet's special edition on London in 2005 so I figured it was a pretty safe bet for good fish & chips. I think you can also carry out but I decided to dine in. The waiter was extremely friendly and recommended the haddock over the cod so I went with his suggestion. I spent some time chatting with the waiter and a local lady before I dashed off for whatever was next on my itinerary.
I'm not a fish and chips expert but I like it a lot better when I'm not picking around fish skin and this place served fish where you could eat the entire filet, it came with a slice of lemon and some tartar sauce. The chips were good too and they gave you ketchup to eat them with although I prefer to use vinegar and salt when I'm in London Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: 73 Marylebone LaneDirections: Closest tube: Bond Street

We were out and about and wanted to have a fish and chip meal during our brief stay. Because I was paying for the entire trip for myself, mom and Kris, I needed to keep my expenses low and this restaurant was exactly within my price range. I would have to say that we really enjoyed our food here. The service was fast and attention, the food fresh and varied and the price reasonable.
Mom and I had the sole and chips, Kris had the shrimp scampi with chips. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 47 Endell StreetPhone: +44 (0)20 7836 3785Directions: Convent Gardens

"Where can I find good fish & chips" seems to be a perrenial question on VT. Of course, everyone has their favourite chippy, but most of them are in out of the way suburban locations where tourists never tread. An exception is Harry Ramsden's, at the Regent Palace Hotel on Sherwood Street, near Piccadilly Circus - a very central location. It's a chain restaurant, but don't let that put you off. The original Harry Ramsden's is a fish & chip restaurant in Leeds. After winning numerous awards for its food, they decided to go national and have even spread as far as Florida. There are two options here - the actual restaurant or the Express. I prefer the latter as the fish dishes are basically the same, but cost 3 pounds less. The trade-off is you don't get a plate but a little cardboard box to eat out of, and the place looks like a McDonalds.
I recommend the "Large Cod Meal". For 5 pounds you get a pretty sizeable battered cod, a large portion of chips and a drink of your choice, plus condiments such as tartare sauce or ketchup. The fish really is good quality - the meat comes away in large flakes like you'd expect from a fish, rather than the sort of reconstituted mashed texture that you often get elsewhere. The batter is one of the highlights - made to a secret recipe, apparently. The chips are so-so, and can sometimes be a little dry. But you'll be very hard pressed to find something better than this for the price. Personally, I go there at least once every two weeks for lunch on Saturday, after I come out of the gym across the road. BEST FISH & CHIPS by labexprmnt Micky's Fish & Chips on Norfolk Place (near Praed St.) have the best food at such reasonable prices and the people who work there are the nicest, friendliest and very funny. Their prices are brilliant!!! For a take-away order of chips, it's 1 pound and that feeds two people. The cheeseburgers are 95 pence and are delicious!
It's a toss up between the fish and chips and the cheeseburger and chips!!! Either meal one is wonderful, filling and very reasonably priced. by bduffy007 Roughly a block from Trafalgar Square you will find the Sherlock Holmes Pub which boasted outstanding fish and chips as well as other English pub fare in a relaxed and traditional setting. While traveling to London a good tip is to get transportation in the morning to Parliament Bridge, take in all the sights near there i.e. Big Ben, Westiminster Abbey etc. then make the ten minute walk to Trafalgar Square and the Sherlock Holmes Pub. Make sure to take time to peek through the gate at Tony Blair's residence at 10 Downing Street on the way before hitting Sherlock Holmes Pub.

Now this is a little find! Right in the heart of Merton Abbey Mills, near Wimbledon. One visits Merton Abbey Mills if you are looking to buy that 'something different', whether it be a fossil, a stained glass mirror or a beautiful handcrafetd frame. We (enjoying crafts and arty things) have often strolled through here (our friend also has an estate agency here, so we pop in and visit him too when we come here). This pub was recommended to us by him, and we enjoyed it very much. It is alongside the Wandle River, which has recently been cleaned up a lot and is more pleasant to walk along. It isnt a wide river though, more of a canal if anything. Kids fish in it and people go for walks along it. The pub has a lovely atmosphere, and I especially enjoyed the outside area, alongside the river.
Service is good here, we certainly had no complaints! We had a tiny bite to eat, nibbled more, so I cannot comment on the food her persay, but the beer shandy was cold and tasty, and the experience was very pleasant. They also dont rush you either, even if you are in a prime position, which was rather nice! The Old Ship by Jenniflower I have been to a few pubs in Richmond and have to say I usually really enjoy them and the quality of food is great! There are nicer places to go to in Richmond (Lass O Richmond being my favourite of all), but this traditional pub is fine if you feel like a good meal and a beer. What I really enjoyed was the fact that their entire whole first floor is NON smoking! This makes a huge difference to me (being an asthmatic), and I dont enjoy eating food in a smokey atmosphere anyway. So, all in all, food was good, non smoking and service was adequate. Not bad for a chain (Youngs) pub in my opinion.
We had the full, typically English Sunday roast and it was excellent, albeit too big! None of us finished our meals.
