Old Thameside Inn: Decent Pub Grub
A decent choice if the Anchor is overflowing as it usually is. Ordering is the traditional pub system. Order at the bar and it's delivered to your table. The food tried to be gastro-pub-ish, but fell short in the execution. We did have a nice table with a view of the Thames.
Old Thameside Inn: Sit Thameside with your ale
I have seen mixed reviews of the Old Thameside Inn, but it has much to recommend it. I confess that we have not had food here, but have been twice for late afternoon drinks and found that they have a nice selection of ales and other drinks with nice terrace seating is right above and looking across the Thames at the city and the famous“Green Gherkin.” Also, right beside the pub is the full sized replica of the Golden Hind. I like the neighborhood, Southwark, for things like this that are not at the top of tourist attractions; Southwark Cathedral is just around the corner as is the remains of the palace of the bishop of Winchester – and all on the infamous Clink Street.
I admit to a prejudice against sausages virtually anywhere in the UK so was quite amused to see one of the signs in the pub (see my photo of it). However, I have had some better (and tastier) experiences lately and may give them a try on my next visit.
Only a short walk from London Bridge station.
Old Thameside Inn: Over Look the Thames by the Golden Hinde replica
On a summers day, this is a perfect spot to stop to take a break. A sandwich, be warned is fairly large, a selection of these, jackets and other pub grub is available.
It's a buzzy place during good weather due to it's ideal outside seating with views over the Thames, you can watch the waterworld pass by or even have a tour of the Golden Hinde replica should it take your fancy.
It is situated near to the Clink and Globe theatre, also Southwark Cathedral.
Favorite Dish: Fish finger sandwich and club sandwich, large, filling and delicious
