Hard to beat for either quality of food, value for money or location, this modern style chop house serves old fashioned working class basics with an inventive and up to date twist. Inside it is a little stark for my liking, with wooden tables and no music, but we chose to dine outside on the terrace looking out over Paternoster Square which stands in the awe inspiring shadow of St Pauls Cathedral. They have terrace heaters to take the chill off the London night, but it was still a bit nippy. Still, never known to allow a romantic atmosphere to be defeated by the British climate, the restaurant staff brought blankets for anyone who was feeling the cold. This is not a cheap restaurant, but is good value and for a special occasion it is well worth the little extra.
Favorite Dish:
I had gourmet bangers and mash and Rob had the catch of the day! Yes, the fish is guaranteed freshly caught that day! Huge portions and all of it delicious.
An excellent City restaurant, very close to St Paul’s cathedral. We had booked up for my birthday on a Friday night. The staff couldn't have been more helpful...free champagne and attentive service. The other half had surprised me by inviting my Dad and Mavis along as well and had also arranged for a chocolate fudge birthday cake...candles and everything!
It's not the place you'd go all of the time, unless you're on a big city wage, but for a treat every no and then it's great.
Favorite Dish:
I started with the 6 Loch Fyne oysters, then had the Beast of the Day, which was beef, finished off with birthday cake.
Tried to steer clear of the wine list as the prices were sky high!
