The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race is a famous rowing race between the two universities, that happens each year in March. They have been racing against each other over four & a quarter miles on the River Thames for 174 years. Each year, the loser of the previous year's race challenges the winner to a new race. The current score is Cambridge in a 78-71 lead, with a dead heat in 1877. So, rug up, find yourself a place by the River, and cheer on home your favourite team!! The Goodwood Festival of Speed is the world’s "biggest and most diverse celebration of the history of motor sport". The event is held in the grounds of Goodwood House. The main attraction of the event is the hillclimb competition, in which cars from all eras and types of motorsports take part. You can also walk around the paddocks for a close up look at the cars and bikes and some of the famous owners and drivers.
Sun screen, hat and possibly a book if you are not really that interested..... We were lucky enough to get Wimbledon tickets for one day during the 2004 championships. It was always one of those things that I hoped to do whilst living in London, and I was not disappointed. The atmosphere was fantastic, and although we did not have tickets to Centre Court, we had front row, base line tickets on Court 1. We saw mens & womens doubles quarter finals, and were excited to see Martina Navratilova win her doubles game.
To get the tickets we had to enter a ballot, via the wimbledon website. Entries had to be submitted before the end of 2003. We were sent a letter with details of the day and seats that had been selected for us, and then we could decide if we wanted to buy the tickets, which of course we did!! Wembley construction site by HORSCHECK For every football and sports fan the Wembley Stadium is among the most famous stadiums in the world. I had the pleasure to attend a concert of U2 in the sold out stadium in 1997. Unfortunately, the old Wembley Stadium which was completed on 23 April 1923 was demolished at the beginning of 2003. In December 2004 I took the chance to have a look at the New Wembley construction site. It is dominated by a 133 metre tall arch which supports the roof structure. The New Wembley Stadium should be inaugurated in early 2007. Leave a Comment Theme: Sports WatchingDirections: The Wembley Stadium is located northwest of the city centre. Between November and the end of January there are several places to ice skate in London - but make sure you book first as this is a very popular activity! There are temporary rinks at Somerset House, The Natural History Museum, Cardinal Place Victoria Street, Greenwich, Kew Gardens amongst others. Tickets are timed and cost around £10 per hour. At Somerset House there are NO reductions for bringing your own skates.
Boots are provided but bring your own if you have them. Leave a Comment

Craven Cottage by toonsarah If you enjoy watching football there’s plenty of choice in London. And while it can be hard to get tickets for matches at the biggest clubs, you’ll often have more fun at one of the smaller grounds. Our own favourites are ~ The Valley where Charlton play – a shame they were relegated last season as we’ll miss our visits there ;( The fans are welcoming and there’s a good family atmosphere ~ Upton Park, West Ham’s ground – their fans have a poor reputation but maybe we’ve been lucky because we’ve usually found them quite friendly ~Craven Cottage (in the photo), Fulham’s ground and another family-friendly club ~ Loftus Road, the more old-fashioned home of Queen’s Park Rangers, one of the lower league clubs. If you want to try for tickets for the “big three” (Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Arsenal) I would recommend the last of these – a great new ground and more friendly to opposing fans than the other two. Personally I hate going to Stamford Bridge where Chelsea play – the fans are hostile to visiting supporters, the ground though modern has poor facilities in the away end, and the prices are unreasonably high. Talking of prices, these are high everywhere compared with the rest of Europe - £30 would be cheap and £45 normal for a Premiership Club. Theme: Sports Watching

No!!! It's the Ice Wall at Somerset House!! For £40 you get two ice picks, a pair of crampons and expert tuition to guide you all the way to the top! With two inclines, one almost vertical the other not quite so, this is an activity suitable for all levels of climbing abilities! Who could resist the challenge?? Well..... me actually ;-)
For 40 quid they provide you with all the ropes you need! Leave a Comment

In February 2007 a friend took me to a Rugby game of the 6 nations championships. England was facing Italy at Twickenham Stadium which is also called "The home of England Rugby". England won the game in the sold out stadium with 20:7. Twickenham Stadium was inaugurated in 1909 by the Rugby Football Union. At that time it had a capacity of 20.000 people both seating and standing. After various extensive rebuildings the capacity has now increased to 82.000. The stadium is also home to the Museum of Rugby. Directions: Twickenham Stadium is situated in the Twickenham district of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. The nearest tube station is Richmond (District line) and the nearest railway station is Twickenham, which is served from London Waterloo. by easyoar This looks like a seaside shot of some canoeists just about to go out. Well it's actually the bank of the Thames. Not your normal sporting tip for London, but I can imagine paddling a canoe along the Thames past all the sites must be quite enjoyable way to spend a weekend morning. Take care for those Police speedboats that bomb up and down the Thames though! Little craft like canoes get rather buffeted by the wake of larger craft, especially from ones gaoing fast.
I guess you'd have to join a club or bring your own canoe. Leave a Comment Theme: Kayaking/Canoeing
