Groovy gear by Mariajoy What's so special about it? Welllll... for me it holds lots of memories! It's fabulous for shopping.... you can buy everything here from magic mushrooms to a pound of sprouts! If it's fab, funky, freaky or fantastic you are looking for - this is where to get it! If you want Marks and Sparks.... forget it. Boutiques selling a plethora of garments defying description - shoe shops selling all kind of Goth and fetish wear - If you are in London - you HAVE to shop here ! There are thousands of people shopping here and if it rains they will all be jostling for cover - so bring a brolly! Oh I bought boots btw. And a CD - both much cheaper than if I had bought them somewhere else. (but a chocolate brownie and a coffee will set you back 6 quid!) Or you can just buy something to eat and drink and sit by the lock and watch the narrow boats go by. Leave a Comment

Once inside Camden Markets, I had a very difficult time getting my girl to leave! She was so hypnotized by all the funky clothes, accessories, hair colour, and boots (especially the boots!) that she was literally shaking with excitement. We only had an hour here, so it was a very quick run through. This is one of the best the places in the world to get cool fashions that your friends back home will never, ever have. Punk, funk, rockibilliy, gothic, reggae-styles and Vivienne Westwood knockoffs are abundant on the thousands of clothes racks. "Camden Town", as the area is referred to, is made up of several different markets--Camden Lock Market, Camden Stables Market, Camden (Buck Street) Market, and Inverness Street Market. Camden Lock Market (by the canal) was the original--established in 1974 as a craft market. Camden Town also has lots of good pubs, restaurants, clubs, theatres and cinemas. This is where all the colourful postcard punks with mohawks hang out since the closure of Kensington Market in 2001. A warning: Do not buy Doc Martens boots in the market stalls! They are most-likely imitations that will literally fall apart within minutes after you put them on. Walk around the corner to the "British Boot Company" at 5 Kentish Town Road. This is "London's Original Doc Shop", an official Doc retailer, has the largest stock in the U.K., and is the first shop anywhere to sell them. Example of the exhibition at the proud gallery - a by sourbugger The Proud galleries (now sponsored by Sony Ericson - so entry is free) are one of the leading photographic galleries in Europe. They have two venues in London, the one in Camden being in 'The Stables', right in the heart of Camden Lock market. It consists of two floors, usually dedicated to an exhibition to do with music and the media. The fact that the current exhibition (Nov 05) is a history of the 'Playboy' magazine and its girls had nothing to do with my decision to visit the place. They also carry a rather good shop and about a dozen or so limited edition phographic prints of famous musicians. Many of these are of the 'old greats' like Jagger, Marley or the Sex Pistols and retail for between 300-1000 pounds per framed print. Camden Lock Railway Bridge by Cham Many shops in the main parts of london have exactly the same fashions and exactly the same people walking around. For me when i was a wee nipper knee high to a grasshopper I started going to camden. Head to camden for something a little different in the way of everything. The market and the lock are great places to shop for things and people that you will probably never have seen anywhere else before. In the lock you can buy food from almost any culture... from fresh doughnuts and (not with) halal curries, to arepa's from venezuela and chocolate covered strawberries on belgian waffles. Clothing you can buy from funny t-shirts to full on bondage wear to vintage and millitary clothing. you can get some original 60's to african furniture here. a lot of artists sell their own work here and it's worth looking at some of the creations on offer. During the day it's unlikely to see trouble in camden, just a culmination of a thousand different cultures enjoying the atmosphere playing music loudly and basically anything goes here... from goths to rasta's, old school punks to retro 60's mods... At night Camden is transformed into a party place. Go to places like the underworld or the dublin castle to get the latest from alternative live bands, hit koko for xfm's special nights and alternative music, the jazz cafe for the best in live jazz, blues, fusion, hip and RnB, or one of the many pubs just to chill out and maybe meet a few famous people along the way. Typical Camden shop Frontage by sourbugger Until the 1970's Camden High street was a fairly average run-of-the-mill North London shopping area. Then things began to change - Camden found funky ! Over years it has become one of the great tourist attraction of London with many 'oddball' shops both on the high street and in the various parts of Camden Market that dot the area. So, If you are looking for way-out clothes, ethnic ornaments, tasty street food, giant boots, PVC nurse's outfits, african jewellery, turkish hookas and just about anything else that is not catered for by mainstream shops then this is the place to visit. It has become a veritable melting pot of all of London's many diverse cultures. One of the more striking features of the high street are the 'outsize' creations that are bolted or balanced onto the outside of shops in the area. A giant plane, or boot or pineapple wedged onto the roof all seem perfectly sensible. Sometime the item has no relstionship to the business of the shop - perhaps because the business has moved on or gone bankrupt. By the Lock by CoAir13 Busy and colorful, High Street is the place for street fashion, shoes, laid back pubs, and great people watching. Up by the canal is Camden Lock Market which seems to focus more on ethnic goods (including food) and crafts. Many winding alleys to wander through. Camden Town is a busy part of London, especially Camden Market, so it is with amazement that one comes across the canal. It is a pleasant walk along the towpath and refreshes you from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets. When canal boats go drifting by, you could be in another time period altogether. Markets by IrishFem Camden town has several markets and is one of the most visited attractions in London. The market is very popular at the weekends and Camden Town tube station is an entry only station so you have to walk to Morington Cresent tube station or Chalk Farm tube station to get back to wherever your going. When you exit Camden Town station turn right which will take you to the markets. The first thing you come across is the Electric Ballroom popular in the 80's with Boy George etc,, it turns into a bazaar selling cheap clothes, second hand clothes and jewellery. When you leave the Ballroom ahead and you will come to another outdoor market selling more or less the same as in the Bazaar. Cross the road to get to the lock market which is probably the best one. Full of small tiny shops that sell stained glass, hand made jewellery, leather belts and bags. You will also find clothes, and if you like vegetarian food well this is the place to eat it. They sell the most delicious spring rolls with a chilli sauce to go. You can also pick up books, records, carpets, antiques and even have your palm read, all at a price of course. If you get fed up shopping you can make your way to the pub on the way into the market and watch the buskers. Its a wonderful place for the atmosphere although it can get really crowded at weekends. I used to have a stall here years ago selling crafts from South America and l can't believe how it has grown since the 1980's. One of the best places to visit when in London or so l think..Opening times are as follows: Camden Market: Thu-Sun 09:00-17:30, Camden High Street, junction with Buck Street) Camden Lock Market: Sat-Sun 10:00-18:00, off Chalk Farm Road, with indoor stalls Tue-Sun 10:00-18:00 Stables Market: Sat-Sun 08:00-18:00, off Chalk Farm Road Camden Canal Market: Sat-Sun 10:00-18:00, off Chalk Farm Road Electric Market: Sun 09:00-17:30, Camden High Street Leave a Comment Address: Camden TownDirections: Camden Town and Chalk Farm tubes

Camden by Lorro Both times I´ve been to London I´ve gone to the Market on Sunday.. There are lots of cool and funky shops and interesting people. The stalls seem endless and there are lots of branches of the market so get off the underground and follow the people and find some interesting things to buy. Oh, the locks are cool too.
