Portobello Market is billed as the World's Largest Antique Market. Lining both sides of Portobello Road are antique stores and in front of them are stalls - most selling antiques as well. You can find just about anything there from collectibles to engravings to knobs and knockers! The shops are open 6 days a week and the market is only open on Saturdays. A few stalls sell souvenirs as well. Even if you don't buy it's fun to look at everything including the people! The market is packed with people and we walked and walked and walked for hours. We ended up in other markets and flea markets – that sold everything from fruits and vegetables to Bollywood movies to “designer” fashions. It's a great way to spend a sunny Saturday! Leave a Comment

Portobello Market is one of the oldest and most famous markets in London. Is is famous for antiques, but also has a couple of other stands, mostly selling fruits and vegetables. It became known around the world due to the movie "Notting Hill" and is now considered as the world's largest antique market. The main market day is saturday, but the fruit and vegetable stands are open throughout the week as are most of the nearby smaller shops. It is not as large as the Camden markets and attracts a different kind of public, but is a very enjoyable place to look around and spend a couple of hours. Portobello Road Antique Market - London's best known destination for antique hunters; the road is lined with dealer's shops, and each Saturday market stalls are erected, bringing the total number of dealers to about 1500. A very wide variety of general and specialist antique dealers can be found at Portobello Road. Notting Hill - famous for the recent hit film of the same name, this region is still better known as the site of a fabulous open air carnival, which fills the streets with friendly mayhem and good times on the last weekend of August. It is billed as the largest free festival in Europe, and for three days the streets of Notting Hill are filled with musicians, dancers, and entertainers, and the beat of Caribbean rhythms fills the air! The weekend market at Portobello Road is famous all over the world, even if I have to say it is less impressive now than it was just a decade ago. The stalls are everywhere but you have less chance of finding that bargain and a lot just seems expensive or very easy to find elsewhere. Having said all this, there are still treasures to be found and it is a great atmosphere. If you miss going here weekends, you can go any day and just browse the antique shops lining one end of the road. Leave a Comment

This is a picture of Portobello road, the main street of the Notting Hill area. This exotic area has become world famous because of the horrible movie 'Notting Hill'. The architecture is very special and makes you more feel like you're in some exotic country but of course you aren't. Leave a Comment

This is a very quaint part of town that is near all the embassies and Hyde Park. Some houses are small and some are big, but they're all very 'English'. No Hugh Grant spottings, though. Leave a Comment

This sidestreet of Portobello Road proved to be even nicer than Portobello Road itself. For some mysterious reason it reminded me of Nice. Leave a Comment
