Tower Bridge: Tower Bridge
Tower Bridge is one of the most famous bridges in the world and it is definitely worth visiting. Unlike most bridges one sees, visitors can go inside this one, tour the interior, see the old steam engines that powered the hydraulics which moved the bridge's bascules, and go up to the top to walk across the top of the bridge and get a good view of London, down to Canary Wharf in the east and to Westminster in the west.

Tower Bridge is one of the world's most famous bridges. Designed by Horace Jones, this triumph of British engineering was opened in 1894 and quickly became a symbol of London. It's pinnacled towers and linking catwalk support the mechanism for raising the roadway when big ships have to pass through, or for special occassions.

The bridge now houses the Tower Bridge Experience with interactive displays bringing the bridge's history to life. There are also some wonderful panoramic views from the catwalk. Also on display is the steam engine that powered the lifting machinery until 1976 when the system was electrified.

    Tower Bridge: Tower Bridge
Tower Bridge is the most famous bridge in London, which is often mistakenly called as the London Bridge. It is also famous for being a bascule bridge, where the 2 bascules or leaves between the 2 towers can be raised to an angle of 83 degrees to allow river traffic to pass.

Picture of the tower bridge can be taken from the Southbank, or I guess you can take it also from the Tower of London since it also quite close :).

Tower Bridge: A View of the Thames and an interesting exhibit
Tower Bridge provides you with a great view of the Tower of London, the Thames, as well as Southwark. The view is assisted by some special windows designed for photographic convenience.

However, it is more than that.
Take the tour of the Victorian era engines that once lifted the Bridge for the mighty British merchant fleet. The fleet may be gone but the Bridge remains.
Save some money and buy a combination ticket to climb the London Fire Monument.

    Tower Bridge: Tower Bridge
Tower Bridge was built between 1886 and 1894 and is one of London’s most well known and most easily recognisable bridges. The lower level raises to allow ships to pass beneath.
Inside, on one of the upper levels there's also a sound and light show which is well worth seeing.

    Tower Bridge: Tower Bridge
Tower Bridge, right beside the Tower of London, was built in the last century as the most seaward of London's bridges over the Thames. Its position meant that large ships had to pass under it to enter the Port of London. They could not have passed under a conventional bridge, Tower Bridge got round the problem by having roadways that could be raised like a castle drawbridge.

Tower Bridge: TOWER BRIDGE IS A REAL MUST.....
Tower bridge: this bridge was built in the Victorian Gothic Style in 1894 and is the most famous bridge of Europe and THE landmark in LONDON!

It is said to be a technical master piece: the middle part, with two draw bridges of 1100 tons can be lifted in 90 seconds: a miracle....

There is the opportunity to have a look at this technical mechanism.

The 2 towers offer lovely views i.e.: if you don't suffer from VERTIGO!! Take care....

After extensive restoration in 1994 both towers can be visited again, which is great??

It is always so rewarding and surprising, a bird's eye view!

Tower was the first bridge to be built east of London Bridge and took eight years to construct once the design was chosen. The high-level walkways were designed so that the public could still cross the bridge when it was raised, were closed down in 1910 due to lack of use. Most people preferred to wait at the bottom and watch the bascules rise up! In 1952, a London bus had to leap from one bascule to the other when the bridge began to rise with the bus still on it. The London Bridge Experience opened in 1982.
