    It is so funny, I always thought that the Tower Bridge was named London Bridge(perhaps because of the famous nursery rhyme that I recited over and over as a child.) I guess If you have time, it is nice to have a walk on it. It's a unique structure with a splash of victorian and somewhat gothic architecture. For a fee, you can experience the Tower Bridge Experience. See breathtaking views by accessing the higher leveled walkways. There are also interactive displays that fill you in on some of the bridges history.

    The bridge was designed by Wolfe Barry and Horace Jones and took 8 years to be built. It is more than 100 years old and was created because it became a major problem to cross the river Thames. It did posed a dilemma for architects as it had to allow tall-masted ships to reach further up the Thames. It has a lifting roadway which used to be used up to 50 times a day. Nowadays it is only lifted about 4 times a week. You can visit the old engines rooms and can enjoy a fab view from the upper walkways. The upper walkways can actually be hired as a venue, i went to help a friend once who was missing a waitress for this christmas party and i must say i did a better job at looking by the windows than serving! Open daily 9.30 to 6pm(last entry 75mn before closing). closed 1 jan, 24-26 dec

    I'm very fond of this artsy view of Tower Bridge, viewed from the north bank, just east of the bridge. I like the lighting contrast and perspective--which I captured by chance on my digital camera that day.

    At the Tower Bridge Exhibition visitors can see one of the most famous bridges in the world and spectacular views from the high level walkways 140ft above the Thames. In the two towers, there's a show which explains the history of Tower Bridge. This is a very popular tourist trip and extremely worthwhile. Not only is it a magnificent structure, but the surrounding area is well worth a look and served with excellent bars and restaurants.

    Once visiting the Tower Bridge you might get as lucky as we were and see the Bridge opening! It is truly an amazing thing to see this huge structure move up and down...perfect engineering work! :)

    Built in 1894, Tower Bridge is well known the world over.It is a great sight and if you visit you will probably walk the length and back again! There is also a museum here, which lets you access some of the higher level walkways on the bridge.

    For some unkown reason I love bridges. Maybe it is because they are such magnificent engineering acheivements. The Tower Bridge is a must-see in your trip to London. For about $10USD you can see a a presentation in the two towers which is presented by animatronic figures of the people that actually bult it. Touristy--yes, but if I was a London native I would probably do it more than a few times. Of course you can take a stroll along the walkway on top and see a bird's eye view of London from the Thames--disappointing because it is an enclosed walkway and you are looking out through windows. It is the presentation that will make me go back.

    The Girl with a Dolphin was created by David Wynne in 1973 and is very close to Tower Bridge. This statue is included in many more photos than it probably has a right to be in. As a statue, it is pleasant enough, but you wouldn't go out of your way to see it if it was against a brick wall for instance. The reason it is so popular is that it makes a great foreground when taking a picture of Tower Bridge. The statue itself is on the same side of the River as the Tower of London, but you need to cross over the road that passes over the bridge to get there. The statue is right next to a Thistle Hotel.

    The Tower Bridge is possibly the most famous bridge in the world and certainly the most photographed. It was built in 1894 and was considered at the time to be a truely remarkable feat of engineering. Back when I visited the Tower Bridge there was not nearly as much going on as what you have there today. Now you the Tower Bridge Experience which is sort of interactive exploration of the famed bridge. Back when I visited I got to see the bridge raise in order to allow a vessel through before I crossed myself. Since it only does this a couple of times a day, I felt privileged. On the photograph posted here you might notice the White Tower of the Tower of London to the left of the Tower Bridge.
