    Next to the Tower of London is another one of London's best known landmarks, the Tower Bridge(named after its two towers). By the late 1800’s traffic of the Thames had become such a problem that some thirty petitions from various public bodies were brought before the authorities urging either the widening of London Bridge or the building of a new bridge. The problem was that the banks of the river were so low that building a regular bridge would obstruct the busy traffic on the river. To get around this a Bascule type of bridge was chosen and it has proved a great success. "Bascule" is derived from the French word for see-saw," and the bascule bridge is a kind of drawbridge which works on a pivot and has a heavy weight at one end to balance the greater length at the other. The bridge was completed in 1894, it stand 60 meters long with towers that rise to a height of 43 meters. Its middle section can be raised to permit large vessels to pass the Tower Bridge. Massive engines raise the bridge sections, which weigh about 1000 lbs each, in just over a minute. It used to be raised about 50 times a day, but nowadays it is only raised 4 to 5 times a week. From the top of the towers, you have a great view on the center of London. You can also visit the inside of the tower, where you can observe the original mechanism used to raise the bridge

    Tower Bridge is surely another big tourist attraction in London, but this one I wouln't miss in a million years. I love the views of the Tower Bridge from a distance - it is especially beautiful on a sunny day.

    A lot of people are under the impression that Tower Bridge is London Bridge, well it's not, but you can forgiv people for thinking it is. Whenever a shot of Lodon along the Thames is shown, 9 out 10 times the Tower bridge will be in the picture somewhere. The roadway across the bridge can be raised to allow the passage of tall ships to pass through it, and if you are lucky you may just see this rare occurence. The Bridge has a visitors centre where you can climb to the top and see the intricate workings of the mechanism which lifts the roadway.

    Located here on the Thames River is the famous Tower Bridge which is now a museum. Pay a visit to the museum which is well worth the modest admission fee. The Tower Bridge's image is synonymous with London. Other than Big Ben, the bridge is probably the most recognizable attraction in London. It is certainly the most decorative and spectacular bridge spanning the Thames and is also a functioning drawbridge. It was painted blue in honor of Queen Victoria's favorite color.

    There are 14 bridges across the Thames in London.Tower Brigde is the only Thames bridge which can be raised when big ships come up to the bridge.( its very beautiful at night with the lights)

    Tower Bridge is the most recognizable of the bridges across the Thames. It was a Victorian addition. It is the only one that opens to allow ships to enter the pool of London. As a child I was scared of it, especially when we reached the place wher it opens. There is a place, I believe, where the bodies of suicides and others who got caught by the bridge were kept- a kind of mortuary.

    Very often this has been mistaken as the London bridge which has been sold and moved to Arizona, United States. The current new London bridge is not as majestic as the Tower Bridge. Built over the River Thames in 1894, the Tower Bridge is a must for a photograph. There is a Tower Bridge Exhibition on how the bridge was built and the Victorian Engine room that used to lift the bridge to let ships go by. Admission: Adult 5 pound, Children (5-12 years) 3 pound. Also a Tower Bridge Walkways for a panaromic view of London. I would rate this as another must-see for London.

    Tower Bridge is one of the most famous symbols of London. Tower Bridge is 805 m long, and built in neo-gothic style, in 1886 - 1895 by John Wolfe Barry and Horace Jones. In the towers and the engine room there is an educational museum, where you can see everything concerning the design and the construction. In the engine room you can still see the original engines working.

    OK, like most people, i think i am not that dumb. But when i saw the Tower Bridge, i said "i thought that was the London Bridge" The bridge is just as beautiful as you see in the pics. There are great chances to get some great pics of the bridge from all over the Thames River. Admission into the tower is 5 pounds. Its just a plain normal bridge. What a let down! Tower Bridge Fun Facts: Tower bridge is the only moveable bridge out of the 29 bridges in London. In its first few years after being built, the bridge use to open and close over a thousand times a year. Now it averages only a 100 times a year A bus once had to jump the bridge in 1952, when the bridge was raised while the bus was still driving over it.
