Unless you call usual tourist junk you can get in all touristic places a trap.
London is only city with no tourist traps.
But if you are a Londoner god help you..
Unique Suggestions: By mistake you may get over charged, please check your change before you leave the counter.
Fun Alternatives: why buy the souvenir junk ,they are just useles and dont please anyone back hope, you try to impress them with your generosity, (you think) but much better to give them the money instead..
Yep - we've all been sucked in. It IS a fascinating place just because it could only be London and that's where you want to be :) But there is not a Londoner in sight, just tourists and school parties from all over the World. This is the place I can be sure to hear more Swedish spoken than anywhere else apart from the Swedish church when in London. I came here a lot during my study days as my local bar was nearby and my flat was along the Piccadilly Line but these days I try to avoid it and only cross it to get my daughter to Hamleys :)))
Unique Suggestions: Spend your cash at the amazing Virgin Megastore!!!
Fun Alternatives: Charing Cross Road is not far away with all its bookshops...
Other than because this is where the Criterion Theater is, Picadilli Circus seems to me like a great place to avoid. The convergence of several popular and busy streets, this very famous spot, with bright lights and advertisements is jammed packed with tourists and people gathering. Big stores; Virgin Megastore, MacDonalds, etc. can be found here. But they are also found in other, more comfortable locations in London as well!
This is best seen from the top of a double decker bus as you pass through!
Man, what a noisy, horrible, place to go into in parts. I suppose it's okay if you're a spotty little teenager, but I think some of it is total crap. Parts of it are full of those very loud electronic games machines, they are really noisy, you can't hear yourself think. But there are some good things about the place too, like some of the shops there, HMV, Claire's accessorys etc.
Some years ago, me, my sister and my husband got thrown out of there by a snotty nosed security guard, just for having a ciggie ...... what a bloody cheek! LOL
I always wonder... 'Do locals ever come here if they can avoid it?' There's nothing but traffic, record shops, tourists, uninteresting museums like the "Rock Circus" and Fast Food joints....
Unique Suggestions: Hmmm catch the tube and go somewhere else?
Fun Alternatives: As I don't know what you you are searching for at Piccadilly I can't tell you an alternative! ;-)
Smaller than you think, dirty, polluted and tacky. Real Londoners avoid it like the plague, or at least scurry through as quickly as they can. A pity, because some really nice places are nearby. 'Eros', officially the Shaftesbury Memorial, should be firing his arrows up Shaftesbury Avenue but when he was replaced after cleaning some years ago he was put back the wrong way round. Eros became a symbol of the naughtiness of Soho, a thought that would have appalled the puritanical Earl of Shaftesbury!
Unique Suggestions: Lots of really nice places close by. Get out of the Circus as quickly as you can. St James's Square is a good retreat nearby.
When at the Picadilly Circus, please don't go to Madame Tussaud's Rock Circus. It's okay but it's not worth the price. For 8.25pounds, you get to see a crappy historical 10 minutes video and you walk on 3 floors to see a few statues, some signed CD's... etc. I think it's too short and in my opinion it is more a 'Pop Circus' than a 'Rock Circus'
Piccadilly Circus. There's tons of stuff, but if you're pressed for time, do other things first (i.e. for example, tours of the city, a show, etc) I've been to worse tourist traps, but there are definitely better places to go, do, and see in London.
Tourist traps as for this I guess the worst place to visit is the Trocadero in Leicester square,, just a large amusement arcade and close bye is the Hard Rock Cafe not really that good and over inflated prices for junk food... If you must visit some junk food place better walking to the Rock Diner which has more to offer and a more fun atmosphere this is located inbetween Leicecster square and picadilly Circus,,, best tube stop is Leicester square and head towards Picadilly circus by foot only about 15oo yds and you can pass all the above places and take your choice,,,make your own decision.....
Piccadily Circus. no matter what the time of year it is packed with tourist, but it has to one side the Trocadero, to another the Criterion Theatre, (showing The Reduced Theater Company)Off down one street Shooping in Regent street, of another Shaftsbury Avenue, home of London Theatre.
The pic is my mate Eros having shot his arrow into someone elses heart :-)
A little like Times Square in NYC what with all the advertising and such. But if your time in London is limited, don't bother with a stop here. There are other things more worth your while.
Picadilly Circus. What a disappointment this was the first time I saw it! I mean where is the lion tamer? Such a cool name for such a lame place.
Piccadilly Circus - One of the greatest tourist traps ever. This is a picture of my girlfirend and friend there.
Piccadilly Circus - As one from New York who already dislikes Times Square, Piccadilly Circus was not for me! Watch out for those pick-pockets!
