    Trains: Victoria Station
Victoria Station is London’s 2nd busiest rail terminal and the city’s busiest tourist info centre.

The original station was built in 1860, but was re-built early in the 20th century.

    Trains: Trains
You can catch trains around, or into, London. Trains are generally comfortable and fast, but can be unreliable and are usually late. You can catch a train into central London from nearly everywhere in London and the UK. The main drawback of using the train is they are quite expensive, especially if you are travelling a fairly long distance. If you plan to make a few journeys you can get daily, weekly or monthly travelcards, which offer a substantial discount.

if you buy a travel card your ticket will be valid on buses, tubes and trains, however if you buy an overground ticket travelling from A - B you may not be able to travel on the tubes. please look at the ticket when you get it and in the bottom left hand corner just above the national rail sign, it should read

    "Route
    Any Permitted"

this will allow you to travel through london by tube instead of having to travel by overground train.

of course, i took a plane from...
of course, i took a plane from the states. Virgin Atlantic is the best and i was fortunate to get one of their special sale fares! they give you a great little bag of goodies each way and you get a personal movie screen and you even get a choice of entrees from the menu in coach. service is exceptionally cheery and the entire experience was soothing and energizing.

also remarkable is the eurostar. it's speedy, clean, elegant and well worth the fare, which is very reasonable if you want to take a quick jaunt to other european cities. it's better if you buy your tickets ahead of your trip and online or by phone. i think it's also cheaper this way also. waiting on the line to buy tickets or to pick them up at the stations are a little bit of a hassle.
the tube is the best way to go for speed. it's relatively clean (compared to new york) and cheap. i always prefer walking though if you can spare the time. the only problem with the tube i find is during rush hours and because of the wierd curved shape of the side of the cars, you may find yourselves in a back bending twist near the doors. also the fact that it actually closes at night is inconvenient if you're going to be going out at night and don't want to feel like you have a curfew. but cabs are definitely worth it anyway. just be careful to say your exact address and repeat it during the ride. i stayed at queens gardens and i was constantly taken to queens gate gardens. this is not good at 4am in the morning and all you want is to go to bed.
