the double decker bus's are cool, but they are not as fast as the subways. If you need to get across town take the subway. If you need to go just a few blocks take the double decker tour bus.
I'd loved to use underground/subway in London because it's easy and cheap. Altough I sometimes got paranoid when I was thinking what if ... something bad happens when I am stuck in a subway tunnel.
The London subway is very easy to use and it goes from far outside the city into the city centre.

Traffic in London is terrible. London has the oldest underground with a large area network.
For getting around it's the best to take the tube.
Underground. It may look a little bit complicated when you at first look at the underground map, but it is really simple and easy to use. It is also cheap!
Hands down, the Underground tube is the best way to get around London. Taxis were expensive, busses crowded and mired in traffic.(see picture!) The tube is easy to use, goes everywhere and is clean!
One of the most extensive underground systems in the world. Don't be surprised if the train stops in the tunnel for a while.
London Underground in my opinion is the best form of transport in the city centre. The roads are always so congested that it's not worth taking a bus or a taxi.
There is a great subway system in London, it makes NY's look like some crazy form of calculus. Very easy and inexpensive. Use it whenever possible.
Expensive! The UNDERGROUND is a convenient way to get around. The oval shape of the train is quite nifty.
The Tube (London's name for their metro or subway).
One of the best way to reach every corner of London.
Here is a picture of a London's Underground entrance, they are conveniently located throughtout the city.
The 'TUBES' (Subway) Traffic jams held our tour bus in place for close to 3 hours!
Walk and use the 'London Underground'
