The menu looked great. The reviews looked great. And the 50% off deal on the Toptable website looked awesome. The décor was intimate, romantic and peaceful. I was greeted warmly and shown a table right next to what I can only describe as the wine bookshelf. My first drink order was taken and this arrived swiftly with my olives (free). My servers and the manager were always nearby and even turning my head usually produced someone making sure I had everything I needed and I was enjoying my dining experience. Interestingly I found all the staff were Portuguese. I did ask the question. Yes, all the chefs and kitchen staff are Italian. Isolabella was reopened in 2010 by new management. I have to say - good job. I needed to catch a train, but wanted a good meal, good portions and a nice experience. 10 out of 10 from me!I would be very happy to recommend Isolabella for couples, business...

MICKY'S FISH BAR: AWARD WINNING CHIPS (AND FISH)
by DAO
How good are the chips? I don't even like chips that much, but then one night - after a lacklustre meal nearby - I stumbled into Mickey’s. Nirvana! I had the best chips ever! I mean ever. Normally I never let the Fish and Chip place decide how much salt and vinegar to put on. They made this combination, and the chips, to a wonderful fresh perfection. This is just the best. If you are anywhere near Paddington Station you could enjoy their award winning fish and chips within 5-6 minutes of walking. I urge to try them, especially if you have never had fish and chips. Although you may think they always taste great. There are several thousand BAD fish bars in the greater London area to puke, I mean choose from. They just take the simple approach here. Clean new decor (renovated in late 2010), simple dishes, quality product and friendly service. Perfection. So how good are they? Well top Chef...

ST PANCRAS GRAND: GRAND INDEED - BUT AFFORABLE
by DAO
Yes, it certainly is grand! The prices are actually very affordable, the food is wonderful and the atmosphere is fantastic. Definitely a place to take a date or your boss to impress. This is a fantastic dinning experience inside the best train station in Europe. In days long ago, there were probably gourmet restaurant like this is romantic looking train stations. OK, probably not, but this is an absolute must eat in London. St. Pancras is now the best train station in Europe. It’s beautiful. The Grand has a real buzz, excellent food and they have deals on the Toptable website. The Grand offers superior cuisine at the most reasonable prices (for the food) in London. Combined with an internet deal and you having to take the train afterwards – get in there!Service is great and they are pretty swift. If you do wish to double your bill quickly – just have some champagne. One in a while you...

BEL CANTO: THE MOST ENTERTAINING MEAL EVER
by DAO
OK. I don’t like Opera either. Having said that, my meal at Bel Canto was the most entertaining meal I have ever enjoyed in over 30 years of dinning out in London. Somehow they combine top-notch gourmet food with Opera that is actually very entertaining. The lady who seated me and gave me my menu then walked into the middle of the restaurant and belted out a dramatic tune in French. Wow. From time to time different waiters and hosts would perform to live musicians and right at the table. Absolutely wonderful. And guys, if you need a really romantic restaurant – get in there! There are around 60 performers who work here in between working in the stage productions. Because of this range of talents you get a range of performances and even languages depending on who is working the night that you dine here. This makes for a very special evening. The menu is pretty special too. Every mouthful...

SOURCED MARKET: THE BEST SAUSAGE ROLL IN THE WORLD
by DAO
Sourced Market sells the world’s best sausage roll. Sausage rolls are a particularly British snack food. They normally have lacklustre sausage meat inside that is virtually flavourless, or worse. They are then surrounded by ‘bread’ that is more like a brick and often leaves a slimy aftertaste in your mouth. Well not here! Their sausage rolls have guess what on the inside? Yes – a sausage! An excellent sausage with a tasty and spicy flavour. And the pastry around it is flaky and light. An absolute delight!Sourced Market does a lot more that sausage rolls. Mostly they sell stuff that’s good for you. Like tasty smoothies, salads, fresh fruit and even raw vegetables. If you want one of the sausage rolls, make sure you get here early – they do sell out. In fact a lot of the salads do as well in the evening. Sourced Market is a great place to pick up a healthy picnic to tale on the train form...

ROMANO'S: ITZA ALRIGHTA IN KENSINGTON
by DAO
I booked Romano on the Top Table website and took a 50% off food deal. When I arrived I was shoehorned into a corner table. This place is not big. My waiter was nice enough, but you could tell he knew how to charm and keep regular clientele. My bread was, well bread. My starter was a starter portion of seafood linguine and I have to say it was excellent. Bizarrely I was never offered parmesan cheese, yet the regulars at the table almost touching me were. Hmmm.. So my house ½ bottle of red was a bit below average. It happens. My main was a veal dish and it was hot. I do have to say they do make up things fresh and hot. It was good. The vegetables were good. Service was good. Overall it was ok. I got a reasonable meal at a reasonable price with me y meal. Had I paid full price – this would be a less positive tip.If you are looking for amazing Italian food – this isn’t it. If you get a deal...

BARBICAN TANDOORI: A SQUARE DEAL IN THE SQUARE MILE
by DAO
You can get a great deal that’s an absolute steal here. I booked a deal for a 5 course meal for £15 on the Top Table website. Then they poured me a big shot of Jack Daniels before I left. You will not get a better deal in London. In fact you may wonder why or how they do it. The simple answer is that this great little restaurant is located in a business area. Inside the City of London actually. During weekdays this place probably does a massive lunch trade. They are surrounded by business offices and loads of well to do working people during the day. In fact I sometimes work out of a solicitor’s office across the street where I can get all the champagne and steak I want whilst I am there. You get the idea. At night there are not many residents so they have this great meal deal. I say “get in there!”. It is within eyesight and an easy walk from the Barbican Tube Station and only 2 stops...

CURRY PALACE: BAD CURRY IN THE BAYSWATER/QUEENSWAY AREA
by DAO
Yet another late night search for good food on Queensway ends in disappointment. Suspecting that this place would be rubbish like most restaurants in the area, I decided I would just have a chicken tikka curry and some rice. When I walked in the first thing I noticed was a really nice fish tank. Going past it I started to get the feeling that this was a 'drop it on the table and get them out' sort of place. The staff seemed annoyed to see me and I was greeted like a nuisance. I had a bad feeling about this place when I sat down. First they only had beer in bottles. EXPENSIVE beer. My curry and rice was cheap only in quality. It was expensive, the portions small and the attempt to get a second beer was a waste. This is yet another bad restaurant luring in tourist and business people from nearby hotels and the Queensway & Bayswater Tube Stations. They aren't worried about repeat business...

GREAT NEPALESE RESTAURANT: TOP OF THE WORLD !
by DAO
Because there are so many good restaurants in London, I try never to eat at the same place twice. I have returned and it’s been perfect every time. I found this restaurant by accident and it’s a true wonder of the world. Everything tastes absolutely fantastic. Nepalese food is similar to Indian food, but surpasses it in spicy taste without the heat. The intimate atmosphere is complemented by the professional and friendly staff. They have a very large menu, but the ingredients are all fresh and the meals are a real delight in terms of presentation as well as taste. This is a must eat at restaurant for anyone looking for out of the ordinary cuisine. The Great Nepalese Restaurant was created in 1982 and is owned by Mr. Manandhar and his family. They strive to make the food authentic. For their efforts they have won numerous awards and had many great reviews in local publications. This is an...

TAZA SANDWICH RESTAURANT: BAD KEBABS IN THE BAYSWATER/QUEENSWAY AREA
by DAO
In a city plagued by bad kebab shops in an area of the city plagued by bad restaurants, this place has maximized its location for years. It's just bad kebabs. Even the bread they serve it in is poor. The first time I ever ate here a few years ago, I was sober. And it was a bad kebab. A few years later, a few adult beverages and I ordered a kebab. I kept thinking, well its the only kebab place around this area, its open and I'm hungry. Big mistake. The meat is just poor. Somehow they manage to take a simple concept and make it rubbish. I have never tried their fruit juices. They can't even get diet coke right. London has some world class kebab restaurants serving the freshest, highest quality meat with a bit more customers service. This is all that's wrong in being able to sling out poor quality mess to unsuspecting people for years. Even the portions are small. And the salad tastes bad....
