Smithills Coaching House: Great food, Great Location!

The old Coaching House belonging to Smithills Hall has been transformed into a fantastic restaurant which offers great hearty meals. There is an extensive menu to choose from with most meals offering complimentary Cheese and biscuits if you can find room!

I had grilled mackerel with horseradish sauce for starters with braised beef crumble with a gorgeous tasting baked potato for main course. Gareth had Lancashire black pudding to start and battered Cod and chips for main course. Both meals were delicious, portion sizes were generous and the service was second to none.

Throughout the year Smithills Coaching house entertains coachloads of OAP's by hosting 'entertainment afternoons'. For a mere £13.50 you can enjoy a three course meal and coffee and also round the afternoon off with a bit of singing and bingo or watch a Cabaret. The entertainment varies throughout the year. Details can be found on the website.

Favorite Dish: The Ambience and great food.

    Spice Valley: Authentic Indian Cuisine

    Spice Valley

We went here for the works Christmas dinner, it was fabulous. If you like the dishes hot just tell the staff who will gladly spice it up , if you suffer from a nut allergy please inform staff who will advise on suitable dishes. Fantastic service with excellent surroundings.

Favorite Dish: I tried a few different dishes as there was 10 people eating. I Recommend Starter for 2 ;Tandoori platter for 2 followed by Murgh lahori ( tender pieces of chicken cooked in a fiery tomato sauce with ginger chillies and corriander ) with rice and Gulab Jamun for sweet ( dumplings in a light syrup)

Hall I' Th' Wood: Picnic In The Park

by steventilly Written May 21, 2003

    Me & My Lunch

It was a nice day so we just decided to picnic in the grounds of Hall I' Th' Wood. There's a nice long, low wall beside the lawns that is ideal to sit along. Just as we finished a group of what seemed to be hundreds of hikers came and took up almost the entire wall. Our timing was impeccable.

Favorite Dish: Cheeses bought fresh from the market, and biscuits and crisps to accompany them.
