Another advertised feature of the country park was a model village - supposely opened at the weekends in the summer months ...but again this was closed and judging by its somewhat neglected appearance, it had been for some time - such a shame as it could be so nice and fun for the kids rahter than the usual bouncy castles they play on here.

Just north of Wigan - about 4 miles away is Haigh Country Park. Its set in 350 acres of wood and parkland and is free to enter so plenty of opportunities for bike rides, walking and other family outings here to enjoy - kids play area and restaurant on site too Kids will enjoy a ride on the 15" Railway that goes though the woodland near the Hall in the park. At one entrance to the Park these stocks can be seen.

Haigh Hall, a former stately home is suituated in Haigh Country Park and enjoys magnificent views across the Douglas Valley to the Welsh Hills. It was formerly the home of the Earl of Crawford & Balcarres and the Grade II listed hall dates back to 1840. Its a popular location now for wedding services and functions. Its open to the public for special events such as craft fairs too.
