  • UK's Best Indoor Shopping and Leisure Destination

by DjLee Updated Jun 14, 2006

Favorite thing: There is so much about Manchester i love. Not just the City Centre itself, but the surrounding areas of Greater Manchester are well worth taking the time to explore. From the Uk's biggest and best modern Market located in Bury town centre (Please check out the website:- click on the regular website link)(15/20 mins by metrolink from City Centre) to vibrant little villages such as Hale Village in Altrincham (15 mins by Train/Metro form City Centre - 5 mins from Airport)
There is so much to take in - see and do, you'l be best visiting this great City and surrounding areas time and time again!

My Ultimate tip is for those Shopping and Leisure enthusiasts! If the excellent shopping and leisure provision in the City centre itself are not enough, there is even more to be found in the form of the 'TRAFFORD CENTRE' (around 15/20 mins from the City Centre) With well over 200 great named shops and department stores - a 20 screen/over 4000 seat megaplex Odeon Cinema - Lazer Quest, Namco Arcades inc. Bowling, Pool Room and Bar plus Bumper Cars! Loads of Eateries inc. all the usual suspects - A great selection of World restaurants and Bars - with New building work being undertaken as i write to create grand space for a further 6/7 Restaurants! There is so much to do, all under one roof! There is also a childrens play area and crech, over 10,000 FREE parking spaces, a bus terminal, On site Hotel and so much more. A definate place to visit when in Manchester. The Trafford Centre is constantly improving and expanding. Check out the Official website for a virtual tour, shop, Restaurant and Entertainment directory and more information on the UK's best indoor shopping and entertainment destination. (Shops are open to 10pm daily (6pm on Sundays) Restaurants/Take-aways til 12am - Cinema is open til 12am Mon - Thurs and Sundays and til 3am on Fri and Sats)

Fondest memory: Everything! I Love it in Manchester!

  • Trafford Centre: Souless hell

Favorite thing: I don't know why this place gets good reviews. It's just a massive shopping centre, built in shockingly bad mock-classical style.

If you like walking round a greenhouse giving your money to boring multinational retail chains, then this is the place for you.

Otherwise, Manchester city centre is SO much better, both for character, and interesting shops and places to go.

Give the TC a big miss.

Favorite thing: If your other half is mad on Man U and you’re not, a good place to kill some time and lots of money would be the Trafford Centre, a large shopping complex not far from the football grounds. There are maps and public transport information on, All of the shops agree to comply with a Code of Practice giving shoppers rights over and above the law, for instance they are happy to take clothes back and give a refund if they don’t fit.

    Visit the 'Trafford Centre'. ...

Favorite thing: Visit the 'Trafford Centre'. It is a shopping experience like never before. Even if you are not planning on buying anything, it is worth going just to spend a day looking around. The shopping mall is decorated differently depending on what you can buy at that certain area. One section is like a funfair. Another section is like the titanic, and there is also chinatown, New Orleans and lots more.

Fondest memory: My favourite memory of Manchester is wandering along Canal St which is the gay area in Manchester. The pubs and restaurants are all excellent.

Favorite thing: Visit the Trafford centre (well if you like shopping, cinema and eating & drinking!) It is the perfect place to spend a rainy afternoon or evening. Their is a massive selection of shops from the exclusive Selfridges to my favourite shops like Zara, Mango and H&M. The Orient is in the Dome area in the middle which is full of fab eateries and trendy bars. Tampopo is my favourite restaurant (see restaurant section) but 'Bitz a'Pizza' is highly recommended if you are going to the cinema becuase they do 20% off with cinema tickets and their pizzas are lovely traditionsl Italian style pizzas. The cinema is great and has 20 screens so they have everything that is out! If you are going for a meal first or shopping get your tickets in before becuase the que for cinema tickets at the weekend after 7:30pm gets nasty!
