Matt and Phred's is Manchester's only dedicated jazz club, and if you like jazz, you'll love it. You can sit and listen to live jazz six nights a week. Occassionally it'll be the venue for a full-on jazz or folk gig. It's open Monday to Saturday, from 5pm to 2am. Entrance is free Mon - Wed. Thu-Sat, it's free until around 9/9:30pm; expect to pay around £6 to get in thereafter. They do great pizzas; expect to pay £4 upwards for one. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed, especially when the musicians are good - expect a little variation on that front. It's a good relaxed crowd, mostly 20+ years, but generally a wide age range.
One downside - the beer's expensive.
