Cornerhouse - More than just a Cinema

    Cornerhouse

The Cornerhouse is an independant cinema that specialise in art films and international films, many in foreign languages. There are 3 screens and generally one will be showing a current release while the other two will show something more alternative. There are often events surrounding the films they show - for example introductions and talks by directors or experts in that particular genre. They also run educational courses in film related subjects.

As well as the cinema the Cornerhouse has a bar, a cafe, a bookshop and an art gallery so you can occupy your time here for a few hours. It is next to Oxford Road Station so convenient to get to.

If you are sick of going to the cinema - and sick of all these blockbuster releases that may have little in the way of plot/ story or acting - and you don't mind reading subtitles - then you could do nothing wrong by having a look at the Cornerhouse - served by public transport it is literally outside of Oxford Rd station.
A very studenty arty kind of place - many films are shown from accross Europe -- ok there is a very mixed bag so you may first want to look at reviews to see if there is anything worth seeing
I saw the flim "Control" here recently - the story of Ian Curtis the former lead singer of Joy Division - the Director was very good and it was to great effect that the flim was in Black and White. I saw another flim here that was not brilliant but still a nice change from all the just sort of general "noise" that you get in most blockbuster films.
There is a small bar in here which gets extra points because it serves "Hoegaarden" on draught - it loses many points however as the bar is too small at busy times.
