Manchester has quite a large offering with many differnt options in terms of restaurants. Food is generally of the same standard as anywhere in the UK though I would definitely reccomend visiting Chinatown in the city centre for great Chinese food as well as visiting Rusholme where the incredible "Curry Mile" is sure to please any lovers of great Indian food. The Curry Mile is litterally about a Mile along the road to Fallowfield and these restaurants (unlike a lot of british restaurants) operate at all hours of the day - a definite must!!! Trendy Burger Cafe has amazing sandwiches and some great salads. Chips come extra and lots of vegetarian options. Some exotic meats like wild boar and buffalo. Loved this.
I had a fantastic Moroccan salad, which was couscous, some lettuce, excellent fresh taste, and health. I find lots of heavy foods in Manc. so this was a real treat. Voted Manchester's Restaurant of the Year 2004-2005, out of ALL restaurants (not just vegetarian), this place has much to live up to. Fortunately, it did - and I'm a meat-lover. It's quite small, and is regularly quite full even on weekdays, so reservations are a must. I have the dubious pleasure of walking by this restaurant every evening on my way home. It smells great, but I sure am starved by the time I get home! It is a bit pricey (by my Canadian standards), but quite reasonable for Manchester for a nice meal. Even more reasonable if you get the set menu and an early sitting - £12.95 for a 3 course meal (or around there, I can't remember). Bring your own wine and no corkage fee, so in the end it is quite a bit cheaper than other restaurants.
I had a goat's cheescake, which looked like the sweet cheesecake I'm familiar with, but savoury. It was delectable. I had some kind of mushroom dish for a starter, and though I don't remember what it was (this was a while ago), it remember it being fantastic as well. Good Thai food from this restaurant - specialities include soups, salads and noodle dishes. Being slightly away from China town makes the price a little cheaper than the other Thai restaurants there. This however doesn't mean that the food isn't any better. In fact, I'd give it a definite thumbs up! Buffet lunches daily for under £6.00. Owner's Singaporean hence the name Ikan meaning fish, not exactly a thai word ( or is it?). Anyway, great ambience and excelent service.
Tom yam definitely. Everything else is great too especially dishes with lemongrass. Oh, and the fish dishes are excellent. One of the few Malaysian restaurants in Manchester . ITs situated on the Northern Quarter in the city centre (next to the Frog and bucket) on Oldham street. Most of the dishes have been 'toned' down for the European palette but the rendang is possibly the best thing on the menu.

Tucked away in West Didsbury is this smallish Nepalese restaurant that serves up first-rate dishes you won't find in any old curry house. That this restaurant is regularly rammed full when it sits in a neighbourhood with no less than 3 award-winning restaurants, another Nepalese place, a few Italian restaurants, a tapas place and others, is indicative of the quality of its food. The surroundings are cozy enough - dark, wallpapered walls and some pictures of Nepal. It's not unpleasant, but nothing particularly special. The service is good, if a little business-like. The wait staff will help guide you with the menu if you ask, and not begrudge you for being ignorant about Nepalese food. If everyone seems a bit self-confident, it's because they know the food is that good. They do take-away as well.
We almost always order off the Nepalese Specialities section of the menu. I really love the lamb handi (lamb curry that's a bit hot, richly spiced and with enough sauce to make it not dry - far from soupy). Whatever you order, they have a nice selection of beers to accompany your meal.
