Manchester Metrolink

by jhorsfield30

This lightrail system uses Metrolink trams which run on streets in the city centre, but most of the routes in the suburbs use former heavy rail lines. An easy and affordable, jump on, jump off system, buy a ticket at the machine at a stop.Tickets are purchased from machines at each stop. Single journeys must be completed within 90 minutes, return journeys the same day. It is possible to purchase tickets from the machines for travel all day, for groups, or all weekend. Some ticket machines accept only coins, others also accept banknotes and give a maximum of £7 in change. Train users travelling into the city centre from stations in Greater Manchester are able to use the Metrolink in the central zone for nothing. These train tickets can be used between Victoria, Shudehill, Market Street, Piccadilly Gardens, Piccadilly, Mosley Street, St Peter's Square and G-Mex.[13]

Manchester ship Canal Cruise.

by wandabendik

Mersey Ferries fascinating Manchester Ship Canal Cruise is a truly memorable journey along the 35-mile stretch of canal. It includes a lively commentary giving a revealing insight into the facts, the history and the dramas of one of Britain’s major waterways. The cruises take in spectacular scenery leaving its passengers with an awe-inspiring sense of how its construction shaped the city of Manchester and the North West of England. Get around town

by jetwind

Operating between Bury and Manchester and onwards to Altrincham, Salford quays and Eccles, the metro link is Manchester’s state of the art inner-city and urban transportation system. During the weekdays the service runs every 6 minutes, it can be quite expensive if you travel before 9.30am in the morning. For better deals get a day pass which will give you full use of the entire network.

Transport in Manchester

by jonah1

Manchester has a good transport system and is relatively cheap and easy to use. Manchester International airport is about a 25 min train journey out of the city but is quite large and offers many local and international destinations. The rail network is quite extensive with trains operating most hours of the day. In the city there is a Tram system although this is pretty pointless if you exploring the city as you can walk around and see most things on foot.

Getting here

Manchester is served by Manchester International Airport which is located just 10 miles south of city centre Manchester. There are many airlines that serve the airport, such as BA. British Midland, BMI Baby, Ryan Air, KLM, JET2 and Virgin Atlantic to name but a few. Once you arrive you either take a bus into the city taking around 40 minutes. You can also take a train from the airport which takes around 15 miniutes to reach the main station Piccidilly. The trains run 24 hours a day and are the cheapest and quickest way to reach the city. Finally you can take a taxi, however these can be expensive.
