This pub enjoys a picturesque setting by the canalside near to the Top Lock. Two private houses in mock Tudor style were turned into one to create this place more than 100 years ago. It serves welcome refreshment and good home cooking - note no credit cards are taken though.
Favorite Dish: Just a refreshing beer midway on our walk from Wigan Pier to Haigh Hall. Cyclists, walkers etc..are all welcome.
The restaurant is basically an all you can eat canteen and the food is poorly presented & basic to say the least.
If all you want is quantity then this is the place for you. If not then dont bother.
Favorite Dish: the salomon kebabs were ok,
We called in The Raven mainly because we couldnt decide where to eat, and places like Subway and McDonalds were all full. We both had the Cajun chicken, but it was absaloutly fantastic, the best i've ever had when eating out. It was served with a healthy portion (or not...as the case may be) of delicious chips, onion rings, grilled tomato and mushrooms.
The barman/waiter was very helpful and friendly, and the interior was just lovely. Overall, fantastic value for money, and we will definately be calling in on our next visit.
Favorite Dish: The Cajun chicken was to die for.
