Aldershot Green is located just off of the High Street and although it was covered in fresh snow when i was in the area there were plenty of children making snowmen. By the entrance was a children's playground and football, cricket and rugby is played during the summer season.

Aldershot is known as the home of the British Army and just 100 metres from Aldershot station you can see this gun. During the Crimean War in 1854 an army base was established here which saw the town's population increase 7 fold in the next seven years.

The West End Centre is a local arts centre with an excellent international reputation. Many famous artistes (singers, bands, actors and comedians) have performed here over the years and there's a huge amount of gigs, shows and plays going on all the time.

There are also art exhibitions, classes and workshops for children and adults throughout the year (including the fabulous theatre company, OWZAT, of which I am a member!)

Well worth a visit, if only to sit in the pretty courtyard or on the leather sofas in the bar and have a drink or two!

    Save the Westy!

The Golden Lion in Aldershot offers an excellent menu at lunchtime (maybe in the evening too but i have never frequented the place then). when visiting old friends in nearby Farnham we had lunch here two years ago and on my trip to England over Xmas we met up again and to my delight we had our lunch at the same place. They had some special deal on that if you purchased a drink you could have a meal for £2.50. My friends had sausage, egg and chips while i chose fish and chips which included a small salad and peas. Excellent value and would not hesitate to eat there again . The owner was a nice fellow from the Newcastle area.

During peak hours Aldershot is easy to reach as there are two trains an hour from Waterloo Station in London , the trip taking about an hour. . Also trains go to Alton, Ascot and Guildford (twice an hour to each place).

The Wellington Shopping Centre has over 60 shops to choose from and is just a 10 minute walk from the station. As you walk there you will pass by many other shops in the street as well as restaurants.
