Please Don't Run Over Our Otters!!
The road between Lymington town and its pier is built on an embankment which crosses the reedy marshland around the River Lymington. Where this signpost is there's a sort of "otter ladder" which allows the creatures to be able to get to the other side without having to use the road.
I don't know how many of them use the off-road route but I presume not all of them do and so please heed the sign - I like otters - Otter Ale especially ;-HIC!

My little brother was once sitting at the town quay eating a smoked salmon sandwich, when a pesky seagull flew by and pinched the whole thing from out of his hand!
On the subject of animals, I will point out a couple of other warnings - dont feed the wild ponies (or any unknown ponies for that matter). It encourages them to come up to people in the future, and they could get aggressive if they know that humans give out marmite sandwiches and mars bars. It also encourages them to stay close to busy places, where they could be involved in traffic accidents. I was driving back from Beaulieu the other day, when a guy coming in the other direction hit a donkey in his car. The donkey was fine, but it was a horrible sight - so please dont encourage them to come near to roads.
There are also Highland cattle on the forest. They look cool, but I suspect a foul temper rages under that exterior. It's the red hair...
