This is an excellent museum, rivalling the maritime museum at Greenwich. It is at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Sorry, no photos allowed inside.

HMS Warrior is now privately owned, and not an 'In Commission' warship. Visitors will note that unlike HMS Victory*, she flies a Red Ensign, and not the white ensign of a Naval warship

A sorry sight in Portsmouth Harbour is the line-up of previously well-loved warships, now ignominiously lined up awaiting re-sale abroad or, more likely these days, the cutter's torch!

Go inside and see the Mary Rose, Henry VIII's favourite warship. She sank in 1545, was raised to the surface in 1982 and is now under the long process of conservation.

I believe this is one of the last two remaining British WWI ships, Monitor 33(?), built in 1915. It's in drydock now where you can see it.

Stop and see the ponies in the New Forest.

They are reputed to be descendants of the Armada's small Spanish ponies which survived the battle.

When you've had enough sightseeing, go shopping, a little retail therapy as they say! There are lots of places to stop and have a drink or a bite to eat as well.

There's a walkway you can enjoy in Old Portsmouth which can be reached from the Round Tower or the Square Tower. Great views of Portsmouth from there. It's history is naval defence.

Little of the city survived WWII unscathed, but a few Tudor fortifications and Georgian houses remain in places. Most of these can be found around the cathedral.
