Fun Alternatives: Park at Gosport and take the ferry across with an Included Bus pass,These can be obtained at the Ferry Booth at Gosport Harbour Side, It is a lot less stress, the Bus Station and Train Station are on Portsmouth Harbour (The hard).you can then walk to Gunwharf its only a ten minute walk then after that get the Bus to Town (Return).On busy days is far easier than driving over .

To me the Spinnaker Tower looks like a dart which has gone badly wrong. There was much about it on the news; some were saying the money had run out before they had finished building it. The Spinnaker Tower, which was being constructed next to Gunwharf Quays is the showpiece of the £86million regeneration of Portsmouth Harbour project which is backed by £38million from the Millennium Commission. The spinnaker plan was the people’s choice for the tower, the first choice of almost 60 per cent of 13,000 people who chose 1 design from three possible plans for the new pointer (as I call it).

At it has a red light on top to warn low flying aircraft, I keep expecting it to take off into orbit like Apollo 12, (we have lift-off!). The tower reaches up to 170 metres into the sky and a surveillance balcony will offer remarkable views of Portsmouth Harbour, an area that has already played a leading role in British history. Will it have a loud speaker added in years to come, so the church can use it to broadcast services all over the area?

Unique Suggestions: The Spinnaker will perform as the first British landmark for the lots of people coming to the UK on ships and boats via Portsmouth Harbour. It will be the dominant feature of the leisure, shopping & entertainment centre, Gunwharf Quays. Doesn’t this remind you of something in the States, “Land of the Free?”

The tower was built by contractor John Mowlem. All eyes will now look up to the sky as the Tower grows higher, unless you collide with a lamp post like my cousin did, then she saw stars as well. The edifice is already a crowd-puller for visitors to the site, who can watch the free show as one of the most adventurous building plans in the country. The Spinnaker Tower will change the city's skyline forever, unless someone buys it that is.

Even as a student it was sometimes good to go to South Parade pier or Clarence pier and spend some time and money in the amusement arcades. During the season Clarence pier also has a fairground and you can get the usual seaside fare (cockles, rock, etc.)
