    Waterstone's: City of books

by iwys Updated Apr 26, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

As befits a major university city, Southampton has more than 20 book shops. My personal favourite, and one of the easiest to find, is Waterstone's. If you are interested in reading more about the city, they sell a good selection of local interest books here, as does the main WH Smith store on the opposite side of the road.

West Quay Shopping Centre: The newest & biggest shopping mall in Southampton.

by iwys Updated Apr 26, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I like West Quay. When it was opened, it was the biggest city-centre shopping mall in Europe. It's a 3-storey shopping mall, which is very spacious, very bright and has every type of shop. It is still one of the biggest shopping malls in Europe and it has all of the stores you need: Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Boot's, Waitrose, Next, Gap, Tower Records, Waterstone's etc.

The restaurants on the third floor include Singapore Sam, Pizza Hut, KFC, McDonald's and there's even a Harry Ramsden's fish and chip restaurant.

There are 4,000 car parking spaces, so parking is never a problem.

It's open from 9 am to 6 pm.

    WestQuay.

WestQuay is located in the heart of Southampton.
You will find the 99 stores on the first 2 floors. On the top floor there are all the restaurants.
There is an Abacus Activity Centre and Creche if you are coming with young children. For people with mobility problems, WestQuay's Shopmobility scheme provides a number of services including powered wheelchairs.
Central Station is a short walk from the centre. If required, a free shuttle bus service runs between WestQuay and the station every 10 minutes. If you are traveling by car WestQuay is easily accessible from the M3 and with parkingplaces for 4,000 cars.
WestQuay is open seven days a week with late night shopping until 8pm on Thursdays.

WestQuay makes Southampton the premier shopping destination for the region, with some of the finest shops and restaurants in the South. Among the wide range of fashion and lifestyle retailers, are John Lewis, Waitrose and a major Marks & Spencer, Gap, H&M Hennes, Jane Norman, Tower Records and Monserrat, complemented by stores such as Next, Habitat, Monsoon, Accessorize and the Discovery Store.
