Christopher Place shopping precinct, St. Albans, H by planxty Although not as large as the Maltings shopping precinct (see seperate tip), there is still a good selection of shops here. Both precincts are within a few yards of each other so it's easy to browse both one after the other. Leave a Comment

St. Albans has been a market town since the Middle Ages. This market operates on Wednesday and Saturday in the town centre along the pedestrianised part of St. Peter's Street and Market Place. It is good for fruit and vegetables and increasingly more clothing and hardware.
If you turn up as they are closing down there are many bargains to be had on fruit and vegetables. Theme: OtherAddress: Market Place

St Peters Street, the main street of St Albans, is the location for regular markets, with a history going back hundreds of years. On Wednesdays and Saturdays there's the general market with over 170 stalls selling a huge variety of goods. There are also specialist markets - Italian, Continental, Farmers - on various days throughout the year. Details are given on the website I've included.
There's a huge variety of products available, including fresh fruit and vegetables, bakery items and clothing. Leave a Comment

If you're planning to visit St Albans then make sure you visit on a market day - Wednesday or Saturday. The market extends all the way from the Clock Tower on Market Place down to the northern end of St Peter's Street. I've visited on a Saturday a couple of times and the market is quite large with a huge variety of stalls selling fruit and vegetables, meats, fish, bread and cakes, nuts, cheeses, flowers, crafts, houseware items and clothes.
