St. Albans Station, hertfordshire, England.

There are two railway stations serving St. Albans, namely St. Albans City and St. Albans Abbey. The one you want is St. Albans City. It is on the Thameslink line and services running from Bedford to Brighton stop here. They are extremely frequent and the fast train is only 20 minutes from London. The station is about a ten minute walk from the centre of St. Albans and is up a bit of a hill which may prove a problem for mobility impaired travellers. There are always taxis outside the Station, though.

The 'phone number given is for service / engineering updates, and the website is the national rail journey planner which gives timetables.

If on a short visit to St. Albans there is a long term car park located at Westminster Lodge (near Verulanium Park). Parking is free for the first four hours of your visit. For those with a sat-nav the postcode is AL1 2DL‎. The walk up to town from here through the park is nice and will take about 10 minutes.

St Albans can be reached easily from London by following the M1, or from King's Cross Thameslink to St Albans City Station. The Museum and Theatre are about 10 minutes walk from City Station. It can also be reached from Euston/ Watford Junction to St Albans Abbey Station.

St. Albans City train station is only 20 mins away from Kings Cross in Central London. From the train station itself you can walk to the city centre in 10 mins (uphill) along Victoria Street.

There is a second train station on a seperate line (St. Albans Abbey) that connects St. Albans with Watford Junction.

St. Albans is known as a commuter town to London. Hence, travel links between it and the capital are good. There are regular trains between St. Albans and London's King Cross (and other stations on the Thameslink line). It takes from 20-30 minutes to get there and costs 7 pounds for a day return ticket (as of 2006). The station at St Albans is in the south of the town, about 10 minutes walk from the centre.

St Albans is very easy to visit by car from London. Its located right next to the M25 London orbital motorway (junction 21A or 22) and also if you're travelling from the north, the M1/M10 is even closer. As for parking, its best to park in the Verulamium Museum car park which is west of the city centre as its the cheapest at 80p per stay. If you stay in the other city centre car parks then you have to pay by the hour. From the museum car park you can visit the museum, St Michael's church, the Roman theatre remains, walk down Fishpool Street into the city centre and then onto the cathedral and back to the car park through Verulamium Park.

To reach St Albans from London by rail is very simple and probably the best way if you're intending to visit for a day. The station you need in London is King's Cross Thameslink and this will take you to St Albans City station in approx 20mins via First Capital Connect trains. The station in St Albans is about half a mile east of the city centre.
