Erosion on the Isle of Wight is a major problem, particularly on the south side of the Island. Landslides in to the sea are evident pretty much all along this part of the coastline. Some if them are very recent. The problem lies in the soft chalk & clay geology of the area. 3 meters of the cliffs a year are lost to the sea.
There are some dangerously close to the edge houses, roads, you know it is only a matter of time before their fate is decided too.
It is possible to walk along most of the coastline here, I would seriously advise not getting too close to the edge!
I didn't pay attention to the holes in the road leading to the White Cliffs - and there I was with a torn ligament, which gave me the possibility to find out more about British Hospitals....
