Finding myself a bit thirsty after a hard days sightseeing, I came upon this place, the Three Tuns Inn in Watling Street. Outside, it proclaims itself a 15th cantury inn and looks very pleasant. Inside, however, it is a sore disappointment. Bearing in mind that it was an autumn midweek afternoon and there weren't many people about, I was surprised to sit on a wooden bench and have my shirt stick to it! It obviously hadn't been cleaned recently. The carpet was an absolute disgrace and the tables in the back room had remained uncleared from the previous customer. Perhaps the barman would have been better employed running a cloth round the place than lounging over the bar sending texts on his mobile 'phone.
Given it's position and historical architecture, it is an absolute shame. I had one drink, left, and won't be back. The brewery who own it really want to think about a refurbishment.
Unique Suggestions: You don't have to go, there are plenty of good pubs in Canterbury.
Fun Alternatives: The Thomas Becket (see seperate tip).
