Folkestone has no major hospital as such although it has got a minor injuries department which is open 7 days a week and deals with cuts bruises and broken bones. The nearest major hospital is in Ashford which is 14 miles from Folkestone
Radnor park Avenue,
I thought i would add this little bit of information because people think you can still travel by ferry to France from Folkestone. This service was stopped a few years ago now. The nearest crossings to France is the port of Dover, which is 7 miles from Folkestone
Be warned Folkestone beaches are tidal and some parts will cut you off at high tides, hundreds of people have been rescued beneith the cliffs because of the lack of knowledge of the area
This is Folkestone beach with the pier on the left, it all looks very inviting on a warm summers day doesn't it. But don't be fooled, swimming in the English channel is more of a chalenge than a pleasent afternoon dip. There is only one way i can truthfully discribe the feeling (BLOODY FREEZING). Now thats where the toe test comes in handy, this experiment has been scientifically tested by my good self and it works very well. Heres what you do, first stick your big toe in the sea and if it turns blue and falls off then its far to cold hahahahaha. Thats it folks, it don't get any warmer than that hehehehe.
Taxi fares in Folkestone are not cheap, for example a 3 mile trip from my house to the town center costs an average of ?5 pounds. If you do have to use a taxi try to avoid them after middnight, some taxi firms charge double. Agood tip is to book your taxi in advance, then you will only be charged single fare.
Sometimes Folkestone can be a very friendly town but ther's always a few that spoil it for everybody else. If poss at night go around in groups and beware of the trouble spots around the clubs and pubs which are mainly around the harbour area.
This is me getting red raw in the sun, yes it can happen even in Folkestone. Do not over do it like i did, use sun block
On the side of the cliff between Dover and Folkestone is a wonderful public footpath. The views are stunning and the cliff edge dangerous!!
Don't stray too near the edge!!
