All around the coast of England you will find seaside shelters of this same design usually occupied by older folk sitting and enjoying the breeze. I remember an identical one in Milford on Sea in Hampshire and Eastbourne, Sussex. They are as much a part of the English seaside landscape as the pier, the harbour, the amusement arcade and the promenade.Behind the shelter you can see the older Clock Tower . Apparently the clockwas wound up by hand up until the 1930s.
I spotted this characteristic sign hanging from the pub corner on the sea front. It saysDid you know? Follow this sign & 'Tis only 2675miles to the North Pole.When the wind blows I suspect it feels more like just around the corner.
Kent is famous for it's Oast Houses. They are usually circular brick buildings with a white cowl on top. They were used as drying houses for the hops for which Kent is reknowned. Many have now been turned into beautiful houses and are a lovely adition to the lanscape of the county.
