A recent addition to Blackpool's attractions is the 'comedy carpet'. Located on the promenade directly in front of the tower it consists of 850 different 'tiles' painted onto the ground. Each one contains a few lines, sketch or just a catchphrase from Britains comedians, poets or songsters.
The mix kept me amused for ages, and i probably read less than a third before being lured away by the presence of fresh fish & chips.
Many of the quotes are from comics who have played Blackpool...mainly dinner suit wearing fat men complaining about the mother-in-law (e.g. I knew the mother in law had arrived...the mice were throwing themselves onto the traps). Others quote lines from the more celebral end of British comedy...Oxbridge types such as the Monty Python boys..who have probably never even vistied Blackpool in their lives.
As it was a nice day. my friend and I spent the day together walking along The promenade. We did a round walk from the North Pier to South Beach approximately 1.6 miles each way so we did a total of 3.2 miles altogether.
It was great to take in the sea air as well as the wind and sand! I felt rejuvenated afterwards.
One thing you must do in Blackpool is stroll along the beautiful Promenade, which runs the length of the beach. No need to spend any money; just walk along and take in the sights.
