Lancaster Railway Station
I travelled to Lancaster by train direct from Leeds. It took approximately 2 hours each way with Northern Rail with their promotion offer in 2012.
Virgin West Coast Services and Trans Pennine Express also operate from this station with services from London, North West of England and Scotland.
Special Winter Offer
West Yorkshire Metro Travel Authority was offering MetroCard and Metro Pass holders an opportunity to travel on the Leeds-Settle-Carlisle or on the Leeds-Lancaster-Morecombe railway lines for 9.00 gbp day return. This is considered very good value for money because it can cost an average of 25-30 gbp to travel to Carlisle, Lancaster or Morecombe for the day.
I decided to take advantage of the offer twice in 2012. Firstly, I decided at the last minute (February 2012) to go up to Carnforth to visit the Station's Visitors Centre and Secondly (March 2012) to Lancaster where I had a great day exploring the historic city.
I hope to visit other places and revisit Lancaster if Metro holds this offer next year.
Bus or Foot
The bus system is pretty convienient and will get you where you want to go. It is the easiest way to get to town from the university. Walking is also do-able. In an afternoon you can hoof it around town and back to the university if you feel like a bit of exercise.
