Old, dim, flagstones, newspapers inside. Shady garden outside by the river Soar, with ducks and weeping willows. Good beer. Good food too, reasonable prices; especially recommend the hot beef/onion baguette. Cappuccino came with a cube of extremely chocolate-y chocolate cake (a nice change from biscuits). Lovely place to spend a lazy summer afternoon. This place has a very creative menu, which is changed regularly. None of your boring 'gammon & chips' run of the mill dishes here. All tables are presented with a selection of breads with some homemade pesto & various other oils to drizzle it with. I am always spoiled for choice with their dishes. As well as their normal menu they also have a tapas menu. This might work out to be a bit more expensive, but I am told the dishes are all gorgeous. The decor is very tasteful & contemporary - slate floors, wooden tables & interesting art work on the walls.
I really enjoyed the risotto dish from the vegetarian section. It was full of flavour (I've had some really bland ones before). The chunky chips served as a side dish with some meals are also really unusual & yummy (well for a chip anyway!). Chequers Inn, Woolsthorpe by eddilowe I have been here a couple of times now with Steve on special occasions. The food is utterly fantastic, it's very cosy and booking is highly advisable. It's ideally located for dinner if you've been visiting Belvoir Castle during the day. The Chequers is a 17th century coaching inn situated in the picturesque Vale of Belvoir. Roaring log fires in winter and lovely gardens in summer. En suite accommodation in the converted stable block. The restaurant is Michelin rated and specialises in local produce. Warm and friendly welcome. £60-70 would get you a fantastic 3-course meal with drinks for two people.
