Taken today to he country gourmet store in Pen Street Boston. My mother and aunt commented on what a nice little store it was with good sandwiches and coffee. A pleasant change to the big chains like Costa Coffee.

They thought the price of coffees were very reasonable and they ordered themselves a few lattes.

Can't see the problem myself, I just cry a for a few minutes every few hours and I get delivered a nice warm latte for free - no problem !

Goodbarns Yard: Six or Twelve inches madam ?

Goodbarns Yard is part of a small chain, and is probably seen as the best pub in Boston for food.

I would say there are better pubs for beer, ambiance and value-for-money, but Goodbarns consistently turns out food that keeps people coming back time after time.

It's menu tend to be weighted towards old pub favourites, and steaks but the specials board can turn up some more unusual dishes such as liver with salsa.

With a brief blast of smutty wit, the most popular starters at Goodbarns are the onion or pepper rings. They come stacked up on a pole with the dips in bowls around the base.

You can ask for the normal "Six inch erection" or go for "The full twelve inches".

I'm not telling you wich one my wife ordered last time.

I was taken to the 'Sack store' for Lunch in Boston today. The adults sat on the leather sofa and chairs (retailing for up to a thousand pounds or so) and went on about how good the cafe was and how nice the Java blend coffee was (whatever that is!)

Every member of staff came over to me and said how lovely I looked, although they all seemed obsessed about my weight for some reason. I fail to see why they are so keen for me to put on weight when they all refused to have the scrumptious looking cakes in case they put on weight themselves !

    Superb coffee

Traditional fish and chip shops abound in Boston.

Everyone seems to have their own favourites but for the tourist who wants a sit down meal Tate's just off the main shopping street (next to Argos) is a sure-fire bet in the day. Red & white chequered tablecloths, waitress service, awards etc.

If you want late-nite chips only then head across to London Road next to the port where a tiny chippy does very creamy chips.
    (but skip the fish).

For just a take-away the best has got to be "Andy's". He does reasonable Kebabs as well. Find him by heading down Wormgate towards the Marina. Bear right as you approach the High bridge (Tattershall Road)

The setting of this place is what makes it great.

Its basically a cafe set up on the top floor of a large shop selling furniture, tiles, heaters lamps etc. The Main part of the shop is converted from a former 'Sack store' as the name suggest where nerchandise was held before being transferred to the nearby port.

The Cafe is stuffed with wooden archways, carvings, funky table, leather sofas, ornaments and all sorts of other stuff - much of it for sale.

It is light and airy with good coffee and wine. The food is mainly italian and "brunchish". They do an excellent (if relatively expensive) bangers and mash that is the best I've had in a long time.

Open open during the day and on Sunday afternoons.

If this place was in London, it would be packed to the gunnels, twice the price, and in every guidebook going.

There are three Indian rests. close together on West street. This is by far the best, including some unique dishes invented here.

It's not expensive either - £15 a head should cover an average type meal with a beer or two

Ask for Oli's special dish (on the special dishes section of the Menu)

It's chicken disk, totally unique and excellent.

Visited the the Maud Foster working Windmill on Saturday as part of our walk (well wheel then) around the town.

The attached tea room is very nice and my parents claim they make nice tea. Food was however saidto be quite disappointing, with a rather mean cooked breakfast and a Millar's lunch that would only have been appreciated by a mouse with a hardcore cheese fetish.

Stick to tea and buns, and combine it with a visit to the working windmill next door.

With my usual watering hole closed, I had to consider partaking of my Sunday lunch elsewhere. The alternative of actually cooking it myself was just not on the agenda.

To my surprise this homely little village pub turns out one superb traditional Sunday roast, with a choice of Beef, Lamb and Chicken. The usual pub menu is available too.

Served on oval plates, the standard meal is only about five pounds, although I went for the 'Daddy' portion (a little sexist eh ?) at 8 pounds. I could hardly finish this mountain of well-cooked food, that included two good Yorkshire puddings and nine, (yes NINE) different vegetables. Best oh all it was accompanied by a rather fine pint of Bateman's XB.

So much for the gym today.

It used to be the case, when I first moved to this town, that the only sit-down Italian restaurant was the 'Italian connection'. It's still going, so some people must like it.

I personally prefer to miss out on sitting with roomfuls of accountants or lardy shopgirls on their 'works night out' and seek a bit of intimacy in one of the two newer places that have vastly improved the provision of Italian food in Boston.

Bizarro has just a few tables, and produces mid-priced good quality italian cuisine. It is located on Wormgate. Frankies is larger and has a more 'cafe' style to it, and is located on Dolphin lane.

Order the pizza at Frankies with authentic Italian cured meats on it.

One of the vast chain of pizza restarants that circle globe. This one in boston has a real 1960's 'grovvy' feel to it with rounded sofas and 'pods' on the ceiling with soft coloured lights behind.

It is sad reflection that in a town such as this, the local pizza hut is one of the better choices, especially with children like me in tow.
