HAMMER AND PINCERS: DUBIOUS DINING
I didnt eat anything here, just called in for a quick drink, but the menu was "interesting"
seems like a good time to become vedgetarian
Favorite Dish: definately not the top item, which l think [ hope ] should read Lamb shank
Brown's pie shop: Who ate all the pies ? I did - they were great
This has been an eating house for centuries.
The cellar is all candlelit and romantic and the main floor is all wooden tables, wooden floors and blackboards. The Kitchen is upstairs, and the serving staff certainly get a workout up and downstairs in their wonderfully old-fashioned attire.
We often try to get a table in the early evening when they have a "beat the Clock" promotion - so a set two couse meal at say 6.30 pm only costs 6 pounds30 plus another quid.. Reckon on 20-25 punds a head at other times.
Favorite Dish: The game pie is fantastic. Proper crust and deep filled with gravy smothering at least three types of game.
Many of the other pies are great too, especially the ones that use beer.
The rest of the food is italian / french / spanish stuff - all cooked well.
The only drawback is the sweet trolley which is a bit on the pricey side.Related to:
