A lovely summers day in June and it was perfect weather for the coastal path walk from Crosby past these balconied villas to Formby passing Merseysides other river the River Alt with its boats moored on the estuary.
More details of the latter part of this varied walk can be seen in the off the beaten path section.
At the height of its Empire, Liverpool was one of the world's busiest ports; local sea captains and ship owners became wealthy. Many of them liked to keep an eye on the comings and goings of theur ships and so built fine houses away from the docks but within sight of the shipping lanes. Such fine victorian villas and mansions are to be found at Waterloo just near Crosby - more of which can be seen in the must see section.
Fondest memory: The elegant colour-washed and balconied villas with their pretty gardens was a favourite sight right at the beginning of a lovely coast walk to Formby some 8 miles away.
