Fab Four by sandysmith Memories of the Beatles are everywhere. In the basement of the Cavern Walks shopping centre is the sculpture in memory of the "Fab Four". There was even a poignant boquet for John Lennon there...it was near to the anniversary of his death at the time.

Danielle and the Yellow Submarine by littlesam1 Danielle was once more a good sport and posed by another Beatles icon in Liverpool. Here she is by the Yellow Submarine sculpture. It is near the Prince Albert Docks and not far from the Superlambananna sculpture. Leave a Comment

Everyone is friendly and happy to help. The other nice thing about Liverpool is that it's a city of Beatles fans :-) I felt right at home. Leave a Comment

Eleanor Rigby, 2003 by steventilly To many people Liverpool's most famous claim to fame is as the home of The Beatles. I've never been a big Beatles fan (well I'm waayy too young to even remember them properly) but I know many of you out there are, so.... The Cavern Club, where The Beatles started out stands on Mathew Street. The original club has been demolished, but the building that stands in its place 'Cavern Walks' contains a replica of the club in its basement. Also on Mathew Street is a bronze sculpture 'Four Lads Who Shook The World'. Nearby on Stanley Street is the statue 'Eleanor Rigby', which sits on a bench. It was placed here in 1982. There is various other stuff scattered around the city too (see elsewhere in these tips)

Visit the Beatles Museum at the Albert Dock. The Beatles Museum allows you to step back in time to the 1960's and walk through the Beatles lives surrounded always by the thumping beat of Beatles Music. Walk into their Agents Office, sit in a recreated cavern, raise the periscope in the Yellow Submarine. One mind blowing experience after another is bound to thrill you, or bring your own memories flooding back.

Check out all the Beatles things and tours--Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, the Cavern Quarter, the Cavern, the Blue Angel (they hung out there before becoming famous). Check out the general nightlife on Slater Street, and Cream/Nation if you're into hip, expensive clubs. There are also many theatres and a nice art museum and natural history museum (complete with planetarium).
Getting there. Two friends from Wittenberg, my undergraduate university, and I flew into Manchester and stumbled our jetlagged behind to the train station, where we took a very slow train into Liverpool. We arrived at Lime Street Station, an open-air train station. From there we took a cab to the university and found our rooms with only a little difficulty. It was exhilirating and frightening to pull this off--my first time outside the US. Then I realized I was extremely tired and fell asleep, and felt worse when I woke. I suggest sleeping on the plane when flying to Europe. Leave a Comment

Several operators run tours of old Beatles sites, like John Lennon's boyhood home, the Cavern Club, etc. Some of the tour guides are about the same age as the Beatles and had passing contact with them years ago. The tour that I took was really interesting. Leave a Comment

Visit Paul McCartney's childhood home! (ok, only if you're a Paul/Beatles fan, but if you are, there is nothing to compare to it!)
This is easy, what I miss most from Liverpool is walking into town every day and passing through Mathew Street, with that lovely 'birthplace of the Beatles' banner overhead, and noises from the Cavern Club drifting by. Leave a Comment
