 | Liverpool Flights and Airline Tips | Tips 1 - 10 of 10 | | With Liverpool winning the Capital of Culture 2008 award many new flight paths are opeing up to the new John Lennon Airport - great setting right by the estuary! Many european connections are now available with budget airlines (Ryanair, Easyjet and VLM) eg. Dublin, Cologne, Paris, Brussels, Madrid, Barcelona, Antwerp etc.... Before 2008 I'm sure there will be many more too. STOP PRESS - Flybe has just announced it will be making a base here too - opeing up destinations to Scotland, Northern Island and Jersey with French destinations on the hoziron too. Plus Ryanair has announced daily flights to Milan from February 2005. Oh I do so need more holidays!! Not a huge airport but modern and efficient. A city express bus service links the airport and the city centre (Lime Street Station) - stopping off at some hotels too. Cost is £2 each way and will take about 20-30 minutes.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is one of the oldest in the country and until moving to its present site the terminal was a 1930s Art Deco building from where wealthy passengers flew BOAC all over the world when Manchester Airport was a field with a sock on a pole. The two vast hangers (one of which is the oldest in the country) and the old terminal are listed buildings and are now used as a hotel, fitness centre and ofices respectively. After the second world war the government, keen to encourage regional airports, offered to invest in Liverpool Airport but the money went to the field with a sock as the local MPs and city elders decided that Liverpool was a port and that there was no future in man flying up in the air - it was a hobby for the elite rich - the rest is history. The New Airport terminal is 6 miles from the city centre which is reached by bus or taxi. Both of these leave from directly outside the building, expect to pay about £15-20 for a taxi. The bus is much cheaper and you get to see some of the sights. A new train link is being built in South Liverpool, three miles from the airport and a shuttle bus will take passengers to the new facilities. This new development involves moving Garston Station along the track, nearer to Allerton Station where two local linesare adjacent to one another, linking the two and providing bus and train access. Liverpool has a small airport named after John Lennon. Why don't they just call it Beatles instead! Duh! The airport serves budget carriers like Ryanair and EasyJet. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

easyJet flies here from Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga, Amsterdam, Nice, Geneva, Belfast, London Luton and Palma (Mallorca). www.easyJet.com for bookings. British Airways from Belfast. Ryanair from Dublin. They are all cheap if you book plenty of time ahead. From the airport catch the 80A for the City Centre, it takes you round the houses but is only £1.20. A taxi should work out about a tenner. Manchester Airport has flights from all over the world and is only 40 minutes away. A bus leaves Manchester airport for Liverpool every 2 hours and there are trains, though they take forever. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is located a few miles out of the centre directly at river Mersey. It's rather small but very convenient and there's enough shops here to get rid of your last pounds when leaving. You can get to and from the airport by express bus #500 or by normal bus #82. Both run frequently, the normal bus is a bit cheaper than the express one. The trip takes approx. half an hour into town. What I liked most about the airport was the fact that it's named after John Lennon (I guess there aren't too many airports in the world that are named after rockstars?). The slogan is "Above us only sky" ... I think it's a fantastic idea to chose a line from Lennon's song "Imagine" as their perfect slogan. On the first floor there also is a nice statue of John Lennon. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

John Lennon Airport has very few carparks and they are stupidly expensive. Park and Fly has parking on a nice farm and will beat any price you can find eleswhere. I have used them 5 times and they operate 24 hrs a day. The trip to the airport takes 5 minutes. Nice fellas. OFFICE : 0151 425 4688 MOBILE : 0796 882 0038 Leave a Comment

THERE I wanted to land, and no at any other airport... and then I could say Good Bye to John. From Paris I travelled with EASYJET COMPANY: if you plan early , the ticket is cheaper (www.easyJet.com) Theme: Airplane

It's easy... with easy jet from Paris and many other european towns, as well as Ryan air, and it's quite cheap if you book in advance. What is also worth it is the view from the plane. You can see the sandy estuary and maybe spot the city landmarks, like the two cathedrals. And obviously you can say hello to John on the way to boarding (first floor landing, in the middle of the hall).

From the 11 June 2006 Merseyrail opens the multi-million pound eco-friendly Liverpool South Parkway Rail Station. This is a super facility a short distance from Liverpool John Lennon Airport. The airport and station are linked by shuttle buses 80A and 86A with the train running into the city centre. Trains also run from this station to Manchester and Birmingham. South Parkway would also be a good choice if you are planning to stay in the south side of the city as there are a number of stops before it reaches the city centre. Please note this is an alternative not a replacement to the airport shuttle bus that links to the airport with Liverpool city centre
