Bilingual sign and chinese grocery stores are signs of the chinese community in Liverpool but there's no mistaking this colourful arch, the gateway to China Town, which deserves closer inspection - check out the travelogue please ;-)

We had been to the cathedral and made a visit to China town and the Imperial Arch.

This is Europe's oldest China town and still has a very large Chinese population.

Skip it, it's a Ghost Town

The gate to Chinatown is beautiful, but Chinatown itself is a ghetto ghost town. Lots of boarded up buildings and rough looking people. It is maybe a block or two long. Not really worth the trouble.

With its 200 Dragons, 5 roofs and sheer complexity it is well worth taking the time to view Liverpool's Imperial Arch, the largest outside China. Don't forget the camera.

Just another shot looking up Berry Street. The lamposts, bollards, litter bins and even parking machines are decorated in chinese style.

Plans are afoot to build the largest Chinese Arch in the world, outside of China here too.
So come back in a few years and see this splendid arch.

Liverpool has the oldest Chinese community in Britian. The arch was imported from China and reconstructed in Liverpool.
