as well as all the traditional seaside type shops Southport has a lot of great designer shops and one of the great things is that a lot of the streets have arcade type covers over the pavements so even if it's raining you wont get wet!
Once a classy shopping location with expensive and exclusive shops have in the main been replaced with more recognised high street names, such as Woolworth’s. Lord Street is a great place to shop, with many opportunities to sit and watch the world go by whilst enjoying a freshly made cup of coffee and pastry or sipping a glass of fine wine with international cuisine.
Bars, restaurants and cafés adorn Lord Street so that you can always be sure of finding a comfortable and refreshing environment in which to pause between the myriad of shops, stores and covered arcades.
Southport has always been known as a place to shop, not the large department store kind of shops, but smaller independant shops. There are all sorts and to suit all pockets. Lord Street which is the main street through the town has allsorts to offer.
There are of course souvenir shops.
Go shopping along Lord Street. It is a beautiful tree lined road and would be wonderful if there were no traffic. However, I have spent hours wandering up and down Lord Street, window shopping not to mention buying.
This is a postcard of Lord Street in the 1920's minus the traffic but obviously you can see the tram!
What to buy:
Almost anything
What to pay:
From £1.00 to several hundred pounds
Another old postcard showing Lord Street. However, the buildings have not changed very much and the trees are still there. The road is very busy now but there are plenty of pedestrian crossings
