 | Norwich Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 29 | | It's a cafe and there's a deli next door. The cafe does nice coffees and cakes as well as sandwiches. At night they do pizza baked in a genuine wood-fueled oven. They also do soups during the day. And you can catch the soup guys with their little tuktuks on Prince of Wales Road or St. George's. The deli next door does a wonderful selection of cakes, a variety of olives and sun-dried tomatoes, and excellent take away meals. They also do olive oils, italian pastas and fresh continental sausages and deli meats.
The soups are great. I love the cakes as well. And the take away dinners. Everything is good. A place to indulge! Theme: CoffeehouseComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: St. George's St.Directions: Across from St. Andrew's Hall

There are quite a few Thai restaurants in Norwich but Benjarong is definitely the best. The food is quite authentic, not too sweet. The service can be a bit slow at times though.
I've tried several things from the menu. My favourite would have to be the baked sea-bass. Very tasty but also very spicy! Theme: Pan-Asian and Pacific RimPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Magdalen Street

Fantastic pub specialising in Belgian beers...fantastic selection. The staff are friendly and there's a small garden to enjoy in the summer. well worth a visit!
Try the selection of 5 belgian beers in 20cl measures. For food, try the meat platter. Great to go with the beer! Theme: Pub/BreweryComparison: about averageAddress: Pottergate

Great food and friendly staff. It's also quite reasonably priced. The decor is quite modern.
Tangy tamarind lamb. Very nice. Not too sweet, not too tangy and not too spicy. Theme: IndianPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Magdalen Street

At the corner of Elm Hill stands the Briton's Arms, once an inn but now a charming coffee-house, which has half-timbered walls, a thatched roof and a three-storied gable end. Outside the Briton's Arms grew the original Elm tree from which the street took its name. Very cosy place to sit on a winter's day. There's a nice gas fire going.
They do so many cakes here. I had the mango and coconut with meringue roulade. I've also had the tradition Norfolk Porkpie which is superb. Theme: CoffeehousePrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Elm HillDirections: near Blackfriar's Hall

(I last ate at the Sainsbury Centre Cafeteria in 1983, so I have no idea what it is like today.) When I was a student at UEA, I occasionally would have lunch at the Sainsbury Centre as a break from my normal fare. I remember it being "sophisticated food" - sophisticated to me at the time, anyway. The cafeteria had things like asparagus soup, quiche lorraine, and grilled rabbit. The cafeteria had beautiful floor-to-ceiling plate glass windows that overlooked the UEA Broad - it was quite a glamorous place. That's my brother Rob sitting inside and contemplating his salad. Update: Adlards has been bought by the people who own the beeches. Sadly, the food is not a patch on what it was. Now its overpriced and a bit ordinary :( No michelin star now, comments below left to remind us who it was. This is a great restaurant serving high quality Modern British food. Went here for a birthday treat. The lunch menu is good value (£21 for 3 courses, wine extra). Dinner is more expensive and the atmosphere more formal. Dinner costs about £10 for a first course and £20 for a main course. My advice would be to go at lunchtime as it is cheaper and you avoid the 'whisper-factor'. The restaurant has one star in the Michelin Guide. I believe it is the only place in Norwich with a star.
The spring lamb was excellent. Extensive wine list. Excellent cheese board. Leave a Comment

This is a new place at the end of Pottergate where the tree house used to be (we still mourn the loss of the tree house). It serves tapas style dishes, but with a north african/med/east european style. The food is good, especially for the price. We tend to order two of the tapas style and two of the larger dishes. The venue is relaxed, its always nice to be on the second story, although the view of Sprearmint Rhino accross the road can be off-putting! Staff are friendly, there is a Canadian link there somewhere, and overall this is an excellent addition for norwich reasonably priced eating.

We had sunday lunch at the Blakney Hotel. the food is ok and they give you big portions. The best thing about this place is the upstairs coffee room. After your lunch you can have coffee there and admire the view out to sea. The whole length of the room is one large window so you get uninterrupted rooms. I think you can go for just coffee in the morning or afternoon - you don't necessarily have to eat there. There is also a nice walk you can do - either to Morston heading west or Cley heading East.

this fairly new cafe has been lovingly done out to look like a victorian cake shop. It does lovely cakes and is a good place for a cuppa. However, it also opens in the evening and doubles up as a french bistro. Its a good addition to the area. My only quibbles is it is a bit drafty and the chairs are not that comfy, I prefer sofas for a cafe. Please note the cafe now has free wi-fi access.
Breakfast Croque Madame are excellent. Classier than a fry up but with all the calories Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 91 Upper st GilesDirections: just before the deli on upper st giles
