by Sjalen All over Goathland you see signs of its TV fame. This is Mostyn's Garage and yes, it's known as that these days. Just like the post office and the village shop are both Aidensfield businesses rather than Goathland's these days. Leave a Comment

Down the hill to the station by Sjalen North York Moors Railway is well known amongst railway fans and nowadays also through featuring in the Harry Potter movies. Leaving from Pickering, the trains enter the North York Moors national park and its stops (including Goathland) before stopping at Grosmont near Whitby. This truly is one of those great steam train journeys of Britain and one of the top sights in Yorkshire. You can buy tickets for the entire journey or shorter legs. There is always the possibility of combining it with the bus if you check timetables and plan the trip. Leave a Comment

NYMR train by Britannia2 The World War 2 weekend is only one of the many events staged on the MYMR over the year. The NYMR is the best way to see the valley and area from Pickering through Goathland and on to Grosmont where the trains link to the national network to Whitby and Middlesbrough. The railway recreates the 1950s era well and the trains and stations are quite authentic in this respect. Goathland station is a short walk from the village and in quite a scenic location in itself - it is used often in Heartbeat on television and has featured in many movies including Harry Potter. I have one two for one travel voucher for the 2008 season - if you would like it please get in touch and I will send it to you wherever in the world you live. Leave a Comment

You can't visit Goathland without visiting the Goathland Hotel, well known as the pub and bed & breakfast Aidensfield Arms in the YTV Heartbeat Series. The pub is just the same as the pub in the TV series. For a true Heartbeat fan this is very fun! The Aidensfield Arms are found just down the road from the village shops, opposite of Scripps Garage. Goatland Station has appeared in other TV programmes such as Emmerdale and also as the fictional Hogsmeade in the Harry Potter films. The NYMR travels from Grosmont to Pickering, not all year round, so check internet. Price is £28 for two adults, which I think is OTT, but I suppose there is a lot of work involved in running and maintaining it, the train is slow and views are mostly of dense forrest and the steep sides of the Moors, but you do get some of the fantastic Yorkshire moors and also some delapidated railway carriages. It seems to take forever to travel the full line and back, so be prepared to kick back and relax, I suppose its worth it, if you are a follower of Heartbeat or a train enthusiast. First Train whilst we were there Feb, was 10.30 am and the last one was at 16.05pm, refreshments can be bought on the train from a trolley. Newtondale Halt, whilst having a typical railway connected name, is only a stop off for walkers, as its quite some hike to any roads. Levisham, a walk up a steep hill brings you to the pretty village of Newton-on-Rawcliffe. Pickering station has undegone a restoration and the market town ahs also appeared in Heartbeat. Grosmont station has also been restored to 1960's style complete with locomotive sheds. Directions: Walk down the hill away from Scripps Garage and the station is at the bootom near the river.

As viewed when approaching from the Station by jduck1979, 2 more photos I assume by the name that this has something to do with the village's connection to ITV Drama series "HEARTBEAT". Mostly appears to operate as a Giftshop + a stop off for Softdrinks & Ice Creams..... with a few period cars on display (not necessarily in the best of conditions, mind). Leave a Comment Address: Goathland VillageDirections: Along the main road through the village, on the right-hand side as you head between the exit from the Station, or on the left if heading towards the Station from BECKHOLE car park / Toilets.

Lovely little train station in Goathland by fabfourfan, 2 more photos Just down the road from the Village Center of Goathland is the Goathland station. Goathland station is famues from Heartbeat Series and Harry Potter, and a part of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Goathland is the stop before the end of journey at Grosmont. NYMR are heading against Grosmont in very scenic landscapes from Pickering. This train station is very special and beautiful, if you don't travel with steam train yourself you can be lucky, as we were, to see the train come into the station. Leave a Comment

Looking at the Station from nr the Road bridge. by jduck1979, 4 more photos Part of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, possibly the prettiest station on this 20mile preserved railway..... and the most Railway-esque looking, with old wagons on view as you approach from the road bridge going over the tracks and into the village. Also a bit of a mecca for HARRY POTTER fans, as the station was used as HOGSMEADE Station in one or more of the movies based on that famous series of books.... you ain't likely to see the actual locomotive used located at the railway... last time I saw it, it was based at the National Railway Museum in York (Summer 2004), and taking it in turns with FLYING SCOTSMAN running steam trips between York & Scarborough. However, you can stay at the Station its self by booking a stay in one of the NYMR's self-catering "Camping Coaches". Probably also used a few times in ITV Drama series HEARTBEAT (not that I watch it). Anyway, if you like trains..... particularly Steam trains, then this place out in the middle of nowhere will have you jumping up & down like a little kid at Christmas. Leave a Comment Address: Goathland Village, North Yorks, YO22 5Directions: You can't really miss seeing it from the road into the village, and the bridge going over the tracks. To get into the Station, head down the sloping road, and over the bridge over "ELLERBECK" into the station car park.Website: http://www.nymr.demon.co.uk/guide/goat.htm
