    Another nice pub.
There are 100's of pubs in Scarborough, not all of them on the seafront (in fact most aren't). The two I mentioned here are really the only two I've been in, because of their harbourside location.

The Old Scalby Mills pub at Scalby Mills is much more my type of place. Right by the sea and alongside Scalby Beck too, with a few outdoor seats and real ales. Superb. The food is a bit limited (sandwiches & chips0 but luckily I LOVE chips, so it's fine for me!

Is this a Polish dancing club? It says "pole dancing" on the door?
Haha, guess it's something else altogether. Not my scene at all, but if it's yours, well, it's here!

    Scarborough's pub crawl route

  • Visitors to Scarborough always want to know where the crowds are... one minute a pub is busy, the next no-one's there at all! This is a tip for sticking with the locals and having a busy night.

Scarborough has a LOT of pubs, but there is a route which pretty much everyone travels on the busiest nights of the week. It starts at the top of town (the end nearest to the train station), and most people start at around 7.30 - 8ish.

Begin at the Lord Rosebery (big Wetherspoon's pub) on Westborough (it's chavvy but cheap), then turn left out of the main door, and left again to go round the corner to Snowy's (triple house spirits are a bargain, but don't drink anything on draught unless you want bad guts the next day!).

After Snowy's, follow the road you are on straight down past the big shopping centre, down York Place, to Klosters (really nice bar, recently refurbished). After that, avoid Red Square, which looks like it should be the next pub on the route, it's crap. Instead go down the hill to the roundabout - your next pub, Soltz, is just off to the left.

After Soltz, go back to the roundabout and turn left. Avoid the Pickwick, and carry on to Bar2B, which is much nicer! Then carry on the same street as it turns left... the next few bars are all owned by chains, but they're pretty new and always busy (Barracuda, Blue Lounge & Yates). If you;re not ready to go to chain pubs just yet, try a really good cocktail or premium pint at Nix. To get there, go straight out of Bar2B and walk down the left of the car park, it's park of the St Nicholas Hotel but open to the public. It's easy to rejoin the route afterwards.

That will probably take you to the end of the night, or at least to the point where you want to go to a club (which I wouldn't recommend, they're all crap)! If it doesn't, carry on up the same road and go to Mist, or the Casino (take ID if you want to join the casino and go in, it's members only).

Scarborough used to be very strict on dress code but these days I don't think anywhere is. Best bet is not to wear hoodies, baseball caps, or grubby work clothes... but who'd do that on a night out, anyway?!

Typical seaside pub, in a mock tudor building that is really more mock than tudor. A decent pub though.

Opera House Casino: Casino in Scarborough

  • Scarboroughs casino is to be found in the Opera House and this is a high class establishment with fine dining and gambling but you do need to be a member although membership is free. The building has two floors and is fully disabled friendly. The Upper Circle restaurant has a fine restaurant with a weekly menu change. There is a valet service throughout the casino and snacks are available on request.
Opening times are 14.00 to 06.00 (04.00 on Saturdays) and the restaurant is open from 19.00 to 02.00. Identity is needed for membership .

    Smart casual.

Once the sun has set Scarborough comes alive with its bright lights along the sea front. The amusement arcades and cafes are lit up all year with pretty rather than over the top lights and they give the impression that it's still too early to go to bed just yet. A gambling mecca it may not be but you can have a lot of fun without losing too much.

    My favourite - Penny Fallf

    Also look out for:

    Grand National
    Roullette
That thing where you have to get a penny in between the lines on the moving conveyor belt (you'll know what I mean if you've played it before)

Foreshore Road on the South Bay is where everything happens in the evenings. Amusement arcade upon amusement arcade are lined up here and it all finishes with the amusement park out by the lighthouse which is open late. Some arcades are for gambling (and therfore adults only) but most are a mix with something for everyone. Then there are pubs and chippies to visit once the cafes have closed. On the hill just behind the beach there are more pubs although those are of varying quality in my opinion...
