Favorite thing: visit the Minster. The huge Minster is an amazing construction built in 1220. You'll find the Choir Screen with 15 statues of kings of England (from William I to Henry VI). Also the central nave is a masterpiece.

Favorite thing: See the York Minster!!! It's the most beautiful structure in York and the views from the top are breathtaking. Climb up the 275 steps to the top and you will not regret the sights you get to see!!
Fondest memory: The city walls of York are a marvelous structure still standing in all it's glory!! Take a walk along the top of the walls but be careful in the rains, it does get slippery and some parts do not have a parapet wall!!

York Minster is the largest...
Favorite thing: York Minster is the largest medieval structure in the UK, and the largest gothic cathedral in all of Northern Europe - you won't miss it! The building began in about 1220 and was finally completed in 1472. You will see fine stained glass windows, and countless other highlights. Admission to the Minster is free - you should also visit the Minster's crypt.
Another View Of The Minster
Favorite thing: Sorry, I just had to throw in this other view of the Minster. I mean, just look at it, it's beautiful.
Every corner you turn as you walk around the outside of the minster, and also as you walk the walls, you get a new aspect of the Minster. And every one of these views is magnificent.
See York Minster
Favorite thing: See York Minster, without a doubt one of the finest cathedrals ever built. Be sure to walk all the way around it, both outside and in, and marvel at the sheer size and splendour of the building.
Fondest memory: Probably my meeting with my VT friends Deanna, NorK and Aubrey - see the travelogue.
Statue - Emperor Constantine
Favorite thing: Constantine was the Roman Emperor responsible for the legalization of Christianity within the Roman Empire. His relatively long reign (306-337) restored stability to the Empire, and he is also remembered as the founder of the city of Constantinople (later Istanbul). He was actually here in York - then Roman Ebor - at the time of the death of the previous Emperor, and so he was crowned on the banks of the Ouse.
This statue is quite new, and may inadvertently give the impression that he was crowned _inside) the Minister, which of course was not constructed until the 14th century.

Inside the cathedral
Favorite thing: for some reason this statue in the cathedral impressed me a lot, I was looking at it as if he was a living man with a lot of respect, who does not want to be disturbed right now (I had to swallow my questions
does anybody know, who he is ?
Again, on aadil VT pages you find the beautiful stained glass inside the Minister, and also the astronomical clock with the constellations and Sun & Moon sky positions
Go to York Minster! Easily...
Favorite thing: Go to York Minster! Easily rivals London's Westminster Abbey and St Paul's. Absolutely breathtaking. Walk around inside for awhile, then go downstairs to the museum they've set up. It illustrates the fascinating history of the church and the site on which it stands. Very worth the money (which is only a few pounds anyway). I loved it!
You must visit the Catherdral....
Favorite thing: You must visit the Catherdral. It is such a special place.
Also the city itself is a great place to walk around. I spent part of the morning walking along the old city walls.
A trip along the river on one of the boats is also a great pleasure.
Fondest memory: My fondest memory is the Catherdral.
Fondest memory: There is so much to take in in York - each visit there is a new discovery. Just walking around there are so many architectural gems to admire. I don't remember the name of this church or building (help Steve!) but the detail over the door caught my eye - thanks Steve its St Wilfrid's Catholic Church, on Duncombe Place.
York Cathedral - stunning !!
Favorite thing: Sorry for this picture, my friend has taken it, she was concentrated on her husband more than on the cathedral. But at least you can see the main entrance behind us. It was impossible 2 take a good photo, as it is the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe ! Definitely worth seeing !
Finally I found the pict of the whole Minister on aadil VT pages
Favorite thing: York Minster is the gem of York. You cannot visit the city without having a look at the largest medieval gothic cathedral of northern Europe, containing a wonderful collection of stained glass.
