York is very cosmopolitan. It has a lively mixture of tourists, locals and students from the University. Also, due to it's strong Viking connections, there are often a lot of Scandinavians on exchange vists, indeed in February there is a Viking festival, with longboat races.

The British weather is famously (or infamously!) changeable, so it's a good idea, whatever the season, to pack warm clothing and a waterproof jacket.

The city of York. It's an old Roman city and even the Vikings have left their marks. I've been in York twice and I definitely want to go back. The picture is of the York Minster.
