The Hospitium is York oldest wooden framed building and dates from the 14th century. It is not open to the public other than by appointment and is mainly used for banquets and private functions.
The small doorway at the end of the passageway in the photo is in the base of the Anglian Tower. The tower is itself of 7th and 8th century in origin.
The Abbey of St. Mary was founded in 1088 and for 450 years it was the wealthiest and most powerful abbey in the North of England.
