A pleasant hostelry situated in Craster, looking out over the harbour. It was very popular when we were there and we were lucky to get a table.
Serving fresh seafood snack type meals as well as Philip being able to have a burger. Prices weren't too bad, either!
Favorite Dish: We had fresh crab sandwiches (on brown bread, of course) and crab soup. It was all delectable and an experience not to be forgotten.
Not a restaurant but a butchers! Nick and I have a thing about butchers and our window shopping tends to consist of gazing into butcher's windows!! Wierd, I know.
This one is in Rothbury and sells a most unusual variety of meats. Exotic breeds such as crocodile and alligator feature but to find out more, look at the website. We just bought some sausages for the BBQ, Simonside Cracker and pork and something. I sent Nick on the motorbike at around midday on Easter Saturday and he reported that sausages were going a bomb, mainly it was young men buying!!! There wasn't a lot of choice left but at least he came away with a meal's worth!!!
Favorite Dish: I would love to try everything he sells, but most of it was way too pricey for our miserly purse!!
This lovely little cafe is on the Promenade at Newbiggin by the Sea, Northumberland. Service is very friendly and there is an outside sitting area.
February 2008. The cafe has just reopened after the winter break. It has been re-furbished to provide more seating and is very tastefully decorated.
Favorite Dish: Home made vegetable soup with fresh bread bun at £2.50 is delicious. Home made cakes are also very tempting and of the very best quality. It's no good trying to resist them! Diets go out of the window here!
They also sell clocks, very nice present and collectables, greetings cards, pickles, jams, biscuits, etc.
Very well worth a visit.
OPEN DURING THE DAY BUT CLOSED ON MONDAYS.
The Inn is close to all the main Roman sites, so a good base for having something to eat or stay the night while exploring Hadrian's Wall. We only had lunch in their pub, which was okay.
The Black Bull Pub is possibly the only thatched pub in Northumberland. They serve a selection of beers and have a varied food menu. A good place to spend a sunny afternoon.
